I'm stuck working 12 hour night shifts... 50 miles north of Raleigh (Roxboro). Luckily, I actually have the weekend off. Does anyone know of any "good" barbecue joints within a short drive of here? I'm looking for something to kill some time this weekend. |

I have been to Raleigh several times, but don't specifically remember any good Q joints . When I don't know of anyplace I just get in the car and start driving with the windows down. When I smell the smell I start really looking. I have found some outstanding Q that way. |

Not sure about up in Oxford, but I love Q-Shack in Durham. Many people like Danny's (texas style), but I prefer the Q-Shack. I think they opened a store in Chapel Hill now as well.

I just came back from the "original" Q-Shack in Durham. I did some research before hand, and my choice was easy.... as it's the only recommended place that I could find open on a Sunday. I had a 1/2 slab of ribs, which were very good. There was a nice smoke ring... all the way around. They had a nice crust from the dry rub... very moist and tender. The sauce was just the way I like it (vinegar-based with a little spice and not too much sugar). I got some pulled pork and sliced brisket to go, and will try them later.
