With Paul Kurtz, I guess all there is to DO is rest....
Paul Kurtz was an American philosopher who devoted his life to fighting prejudice against people who reject belief in a god and and promoting a non-religious stance in life. He has died at the age of 86. Not everyone believes everything, no matter how advanced and widespread the opposing beliefs are. People who do not believe in God have a right to hold their beliefs without prejudice. Increasingly there are people in the US that say that America is a free country, provided you believe what I do, provided you follow their narrow guidelines on what you can put into or take out of your body. "If everyone would just accept that what I believe is the RIGHT approach, then the world would be a better place." Actually no, that is the opposite of what America should stand for. The USA wants to be thought of as a country of tolerance, religious freedom, even the freedom to reject religion, and especially religious leaders. But as people have become more aware of the power of politics, the pressure is on people who do not believe to "conform or be cast out" like Rush said. (not the fat, bloated Rush, the skinny Canadian ones.) The world has lost an insistent voice for the TRUE freedom America needs to embrace. Me not believing in a God does not threaten your right to believe, nor keep you from your hopeful rest with your God. It's high time more people realized that and lived their own lives. |
