As long as it doesn't have an odor to it, I would think you would be fine using it. Not all manufacturers use cedar for their boxes. Some of it looks like poplar or something else to me.

I'm not a wood expert so take this with a grain of salt, but if you can put it in your vino, have it stabilize, and it doesn't warp, you're probably ok.
cedar retains a relatively large amount of moisture and has a tendency to not warp - those (and the smell) are the main benefits. |
