Veteran free-agent center Mike Modano will join the Red Wings this week, the Detroit Free Press reported Monday.
Modano, 40, has been offered a one-year contract for $1.25 million to be the team's third-line center. The Dallas Stars franchise icon for 20 seasons will also get a chance to play near home -- his parents live near Detroit.
"Big announcement Thursday," Modano stated in a text message to the newspaper Monday.
