Default Re: What should I know?

Hey brother, welcome to Cigar Asylum I think the other guys are saying the right thing that you should go back into the B&M, ask for advice and smoke a wide selection so you find out what you like.

As a general rule, the lighter the wrapper, the milder the cigar. But, dark cigars can be very tasty with some sweet flavors so don't stay away from those thinking they are all powerhouse cigars. Some of the dark maduros can actually give you a good chocolate/sweet flavor profile without buying the flavor infused cigars like Acid. If you really want specific ideas, here are a few I would recommend to new smokers that are looking for a good quality cigar without the high prices...

- Oliva cigars are a good basic cigar at cheaper prices and I feel is a good brand to try starting out.
- Arturo Fuente cigars are a good consistent higher quality cigar and something you might want to try is the Short Story... it's a smaller smoke and won't break the bank.
- The Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne cigar is popular by a lot of people that like mild cigars. Not sure if that would be a standard cigar in most B&M's though...

I could go on and on... taste preference is really subjective and you just need to start smoking and figure out what you like, not what other people tell you is good. Keep reading the forum, try different cigars and you will eventually know what to look for and what the differences are in cigars. Eventually, you will know what flavor a specific tobacco (Criollo, Oscuro, etc) brings to a cigar when you see it listed...
