Gruden could coach, but everyone has their own professional choices. I am sure he didn't have a shortage of head coaches around the league offering him positions on their staff.

I am hesitant to say that a former coach will make a good commentator. It seems that there needs to be some seperation from the game before jumping back into calling games of people you used to coach against. Plus, wasn't Kornheiser the color-commentator? Not sure Gruden fits that role very well, because he certainly won't be play-by-play, but I am sure he will have good insights. I will withhold judgement until I see him cover a game I suppose.
