I dug up the ancestors of these Iris in the marsh ponds south of New Orleans while we were "fishing for TV" back in the late 80s.
Technically, they are the same plant, I guess. They were grown in St. Louis, MO, Concord, NC and now in the mountains of
western NC. OOps, NOT there.....in Memphis, INSTEAD of western NC. My mother couldn't or didn't want to move them and
deal with them up in the high elevations. I imagine I will dig one up for her, though, and take it to her when I visit soon.
This is one of my two favorite Nikkor manual focus lenses, an 85mm f/2. My real favorite of the two is the 105mm f/2.5.
Both of them create such wonderful photos. I think the 105mm can be had used these days for $150 or so, worth every
single penny, IMO. 85mms seem to demand an unfair (to me) premium and are tough to get under about $250. But the
F/2 seems to be a really good performer in a wide variety of light conditions, despite the "slow" f/2. Everyone seems to
want the 1.4 or 1.8, and they are surely fine lenses. I just mean I have never thought "if I only had the 1.4"
