This. I purge before setting it down and again when relighting. When I relight I use one simple test to see if I continue smoking it: how does it taste? That's really all that matters.

I've found that some cigars can sit for an hour or two and smoke fine when re-lit. There are others that I know if it's going to be more than 5-10 minutes I'll toss it out.
