I don't think it's a bad idea, and I'd probably vote for it, but I think Cole's setup is more fair to everyone involved and more likely to bear out the fairest result.
Plus it's nice and simple.
We should also set this up at the beginning of the year next year and jam it in the rules. That way a guy can work his matchups for the playoffs and trade/make moves to prepare for week 16 and 17.

If we split into two groups of 3 teams, then it is possible that all 3 teams from one group would score higher than the others. Under this sort of arrangement it is possible to have the highest scoring team playing against the 4th highest, leaving the 2nd highest scoring team out.
