Good announcers don't always translate into sports minds or coaches or vice-versa. See: Matt Millen, announcer hired as a GM. Barry Melrose's last stint in the NHL, coach turned announcer, turned coach. Quinn Buckner a terrible failure in the NBA after being hired out of the booth.
