Easiest thing to do is decant the tin of tobacco into a mason jar. It will keep forever; you will not have to concern yourself with the moisture of the tobacco from then on. It may begin to dry out if you dip into the jar frequently, though. If that happens, just rehydrate if necessary. Put a label on the jar, too.
