Re: Thinking of a small cellar
Besides Frei what else do you drink? Which varietals? Regions? The more you can say the easier it will be for someone to recommend wines to you. Anyone saying "I love ____________" does not mean...

Re: Thinking of a small cellar
Don't want to make it sound elitist, but Frei Brothers anything is not worth "aging". These wines are made for drinking short term. Same with roughly 95% of the wines in the marketplace. Buy and...

Re: .avr video converted to Mac
The link above points to a Mac sound player. I have not tried it since I have no avr files on hand. What's funny is that it seems avr files were Mac files to begin with, strange they don't support it...

Re: .avr video converted to Mac
Carlos, why not simply install VLC player (Mac version), it plays pretty much any format available out there. I'm a very recent convert to Mac and well, Windows platform does have its better points...

Re: The Wine Thread
Moses,
That wine was made by Chelischev, he's really the Godfather of Cal Pinot, historically speaking. And fruit for this one was grown in Napa, no less. If you want to try some seriously good...

Re: The Wine Thread
Moses,
Bottle aging IS personal taste and preference, many love tannic wines, many don't, any don't care either way. Not so with brett and TCA, they are physical faults and there is no such thing...

Placed an order back in early March, still waiting for delivery even though they emailed me more than 2 weeks ago to say they shipped.

Re: Cigar Aging Article
Time to buy a 5er, stick it in a large empty humi and voila, 4 months from now you have perfectly aged "5+ year old" cigars. Who needs years of careful aging? Pass that crack pipe, please...

Re: The Wine Thread
Moses,
If by "terroir" you mean filthy wineries, then sure, its "terroir". A good friend of mine visited Pegau and was disgusted when he walked into the cellar/winery, mold, crap all over the...

Re: The Wine Thread
Parker LOVES this sh#t! Openly admits to it and on top of that, teaches others they should LOVE this as well. And then people ask me why I so disagree with Parker's notes so often, his palate has...

Re: The Wine Thread
There are no "perfect" bottles when it comes to Pegau and Beau, they simply may have "less" brett to show if properly stored in colder cellars, but they all have brett. Another good candidate is...

Walnut Creek, no less, home to one of the best cigar lounges around. The state is beyond repair at this point if they have all the time for this BS while incapable of solving real issues...

Moses, I know you have a Euro-centric palate and cellar, but I am sure white wine producers in Bordeaux (and other regions in France) will disagree with you statement. When was the last time you...

Not sure I'd call Loire "the" place for whites in France :-) There is always Alsace region producing some spectacular whites, both dry and not. Bordeaux region makes some of the best whites as well,...

Also, Champalou (imported by Kermit Lynch) make some of the better wines there, both dry and sparkling at lower prices than Huet. Both of these are in Vouvray region.

There are just 2 strains, basically, when it comes to wine, arrive with the grapes off the vineyard (they are basically the "bad" yeasts).

Re: The Wine Thread
Pierre Ferrand is one of the better small house Cognacs around, IMO. Not cheap, but great. If you're into incredible Cognacs you should try Leopold Gourmel.
Of the sparklers on your list the one...
