6. I can't say enough good things about the flame from paper and wooden matches. The match/pipe combo gives you rock-solid performance, time-honored charm, the grandfatherly "puffFLARE...

Re: New Pipe Smoker With A Question? Ask an Old Fart

There about about 40-eleventeen-thousand posts on which is the RIGHT lighter, torch, match, converted hot air balloon- or kitchen stove burner to light a pipe with. It's like the eternal "Cello on...

I knew I'd win something one day. I hoped it would be the $140M lottery last week but I'll take coffee health drink as a personal victory. It so happens I drank some coffee this morning and I FEEL...

Re: First Coffee Review: Sumatran Mandehling

Great review, great coffee and a rawther pricey price at 14-semolians.

But who am I to argue with the value of "great micro-roasted coffee"? I still remember the first cup of quality, fresh...

Re: Eight O' Clock Tanks

My experience (and the Consumers report) is with their basic EOC, a blend. It is possible that their 100% Columbian stands up better but, fact is, I've never liked it very much and haven't bought it...

Eight O' Clock Tanks

"If you're looking for a standout among blended coffees, you may be disappointed. Blends, the best-selling type of ground coffee, contain beans from at least two regions or countries. Of the 24...

Re: New Pipe Smoker With A Question? Ask an Old Fart

No ghosts in my meers. I rarely buy something new that doesn't start in a meer for that crisp, clear picture of what it is.

I clean mine after every smoke by rubbing out the bowl with a looped...

Re: Press or Press??

An Aerobie, a great device, makes a brew different from (but close to) espresso or mokapot coffee. Add water to a cup of Aerobie-brewed coffee and it's pretty much like a smooth Americano. Add hot...

Comptons Balkan in a Brakner AX and rinsed off with MacB Navy Flake in a Brakner acorn. Much smoke.

Re: Most recent or favorite pipe.

Coulda been worse; coulda been looking for Wankers. Prices have elevated in the past several years (on Brakners - don't know about current Wanker values). A nice intact pipe at a "Woo hoo!" price...

Exceptionally cool pipes, Erat'.

Here is a Brakner cherrywood cleaned up and good for another 50 years. My most recent pipe is not usually the favorite but this one is an exception. Nice...

Re: Aged pipe tabacco, where to buy?

There are auction sellers who misrepresent current production tobacco as vintage or discontinued. While experienced buyers may recognize what is what, these listings prey on inexperienced buyers. I...

Re: Finding estate pipes (garage sales, estate sales) how to find them

I concur with Curly Cut whenever he is concurring with me. Getting a bunch of nasty old pipes for $5.00 on ebay is a great way to hone your skills and, sometimes, even find a cool pipe.

Re: 5 days into pipe smoking...and I need a pipe rack! lol

:tpd: The 11-post superstitious PaulMac rookie speaks the trooth; why take the time and effort (and smallish risk) to soak and scour a pipe if you don't have to? Great post, newguy.

Further to...

Re: Finding estate pipes (garage sales, estate sales) how to find them

Beware all pipes on ebay with one or two blurry photos and/or a seller who opens with, "I don't know anything about pipes..."

It amazes me how few pipes show up at yard sales, flea markets, etc. ...

Re: Cleaning an Estate Pipe--Help?!?

There are bigger ones and smaller ones in the sub-$5 area - that's about it. I think bigger is better, cobwise. I favor the Missouri Meerschaum Great Dane, for example.

For $15-up there are...

Re: Pipe Noob... A Million Questions

Pipes mostly go out in 5-10...
