Re: Snowmobiling Western NY
I don't snowmobile, but I think there's a fairly extensive trail that runs through Lockport and surrounding areas. It runs on private land, but the landowners have granted permission for its use.

Re: How was this burger cooked?
This.
I have yet to find any cook or restaurant that can duplicate exactly the way one particular tavern I go to does them. They are out of this world, and they look very similar to the picture...

Re: "Breaking" News?
I hear ya.
Our local stations send out 432 alerts an hour just in case we might get an inch of snow....
This is Buffalo and its January, anything under a foot on the ground and I get worried.

Fellow BOTL on America's Got Talent
A very good guy and a very good friend of mine is in the running tonight. Take a look on NBC (its live) and please vote for him if you can.
Here's a sample of Paulie doing his thing:...

Re: Crushed.
The only advice I'll add is to listen to the above posters.
I went through a really rough breakup a few years ago. To make it worse, I was somewhere in the middle of a 9 month stint of living in...

Re: Opinions/Experiences with F150/Tundras
Just about to cross over 60k and no problems so far. I do a lot of offroading during the day (I'm in the construction/engineering business) and during my off hours I'm either working on my house or...

Re: Opinions/Experiences with F150/Tundras
I looked at all of the 1/2 tons in '08 when I was last shopping around. Of the two you selected, my opinions were:
Ford: weakest engine out there
Toyota: tailgate seemed flimsy and I had...

Re: Anyone been to South Africa?
Pinotguy, much thanks...your insights have already been valuable. I'll definitely be PMing you in the future.
BTW...We're likely looking at going sometime during the summer of 2011

Anyone been to South Africa?
I got engaged a few months ago, and one place we're considering is South Africa....but I'm a little leery because of the crime situation.
Has anyone been there that can offer some guidance?

"Old Painless" does some great work. I have access to a great variety of shotguns and plan on doing a lot of shotgun testing for both hunting and home defense purposes once it gets back up into...

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Sounds reasonable.
In my particular situation, the prime places for a confrontation are confined, so there would be no lateral movement. If BG is running towards me, 00. If he's running away, no...

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Nothing federally mandated. Nothing in NY, and I sure as hell would assume there would be no waiting period in TX, but I've never lived there so I can't say for sure. You will be required to go...

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Either or. To buy one online, you would need to it have shipped to a local FFL (dealer) who will then transfer it to you. Honestly though, for an 870 or 500, your best deal will likely be at a Dick's...

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Thats what I figured. Be sure to check local laws. Here in NY, if you even think of demonstrating lethal force, you best be in a position where it is absolutely necessary and your life (or another's)...

Re: First Firearm Thread.
This makes me curious.....
I agree on the 870. Both the 870 and 500 are ultra reliable shotguns. I prefer the 870.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
I'd also be willing to help. I've built a few now as well and at the very least point you in the direction of a good FFL dealer/gunsmith who can make sure you're NY legal. I'm in the Buffalo area,...
