 Those are the ones with the balsa filters no? If so, I tended to ignore them on my Sav.
 
 Give a decent cleaning before lighting her up. Plenty of threads about cleaning estate pipes.

 Smoke sits within the cigar when you pull on it. Blowing through the cigar removes any sort of smoke that's lingering inside the cigar. No stale smoke, no foul.
 
 Doesn't always work though.
