Headed to Seattle for a Wedding...

I don't travel much, especially to bigger cities..I was hoping someone might be able to give me a breakdown of where to go / not to go, safe places vs dangerous places ect.

My wife is pretty much set on staying at the Westin, and it looks like it will be smack downtown..any help/suggestions appreciated.

Downtown Seattle can be a lot of fun, but not many places to smoke cigars (public smoking ban). We have a number of inmates from that area and I am sure they will have lots of good advice.

There is a cigar shop tucked away near Pikes Place. I have been there a few times, pretty good selection with ok prices. Sorry I don't know the name or the exact spot, hopefully someone else can provide that. The Tap House is a really nice spot to grab a beer and Mortons Steak House is across the street.

Can you still have cigars at Morton's?

The concierge at the Westin will be able to steer you clear of any problem areas, but I can't really think of any place in downtown where you cannot walk safely. South of Pioneer Square can be a bit dicey, but okay in the daylight. The waterfront after dark isn't a good place to go as many different types of people crash there at night. Most are fine and won't bother you, but don't take chances if you aren't a city person.

The Seattle Pin Ball Museum is a great place to go. It is owned by an old Club Stogie brother named Charlie. He can tell you places in Seattle to smoke, but he mostly goes to a cigar bar at the casino in Fife - about 1/2 hour away.

Do Pike Place Market, the aquarium, Post Alley (especially if you like jazz). The Seattle Center is kinda lame, but if you like a rotating view, head up there (kinda expensive) and see the view. Go to the Ballard Locks (there are some good restaurants there) and be sure to take a few trips on the ferries. If it is clear and there is a good moon, take a ferry back to Seattle after dark so that you can see Mt Ranier in the moonlight. Awesome sight.

Oh yeah, ask about the underground tour.

Bring your own cigars. Wash state taxes are high.
