A Very Special Purchase
Afternoon everyone. Our internet went down at work today so on the way home I stopped in at the local cigar shop that I had yet to check out. Along with an amazing selection of house blends, as well as DE and Oliva cigars, they had something that I think is very special.
They had a box of Padron Lanceros that the clerk said were from 1994. Now at first I didn't believe him until I got out into some good lighting. Check out the color of the wrapper! I'm really starting to think he may not have been blowing smoke. Anyone ever had a Padron this old? They had a whole box and even though I spent way more than I should have today I'm thinking of picking a few more up, when would I have a chance like this again? http://i.imgur.com/T0TpJOOl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Ax5seItl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/T4LAe02l.jpg |

Re: A Very Special Purchase
Very interesting. Were these at a mark up due to the age? Since they're padrons they should have a factory slip in the box stating when they were rolled, that would be an easy way to verify the age if they kept it. those little slips can get lost if you're not careful, they're usually wedged in a corner, but they have helped me check the age of vintage padrons before. nice find :tu

Re: A Very Special Purchase
Honestly I'm not sure if there was a markup, I was just sort of grabbing. I might call them back tonight and ask.
Shop was called Tesa Cigar Company, it's just to the west of the river in the old meat packing district. Story was the box was from way back when the shop opened 30 some years ago. Thinking about lighting one up right now. Edit: Just did some quick math and I paid an average of $10 a stick, which makes me think there couldn't have been much of a markup on the Padrons. This gets to something that bugs me about a lot of shops, no itemized receipts. |
Re: A Very Special Purchase
The longest any have ever stuck around for me without getting smoked is about 2 years and they were amazing . Nice pickup!

Re: A Very Special Purchase
I have a friend that swears that an aged x000 smokes better than their 1964 and 1926 lines at a fraction of the cost, you just need to have the patience to sit on a box for a few years.

Re: A Very Special Purchase
If you go back, please see if they have any 1994s. Same year, just a little different cigar. :)

Re: A Very Special Purchase
Most NC's that old can become "papery" tasting. The tobacco is already quite mature at the time of rolling. Oils come off into the cello. That being said, I have never had a Padron that old, so maybe your experience was different?
Nice score. |
