Non-drinker needing suggestions
So, as the title says, I am not a drinker. However, I would like something on hand for little celebrations and such. My problem being that I have almost zero experience with alcohol. So, I'm asking for suggestions. I'd like something that I can drink straight from the bottle - smooth and flavorful. Maybe a rum, or honey whiskey. My wife would prefer something more desert like. Maybe a flavored vodka, southern comfort, or creme liquor. Oh, and I open to separate drinks for me and my wife. Thanks guys.

Honey whiskey? A good mead might serve, but good ones aren't available some places, and are not cheap. As for flavored vodka, this should be easy to find. I've never had one, but girls have told me whipped cream ones are tasty . . . if you want whipped cream vodka, that is. ;)

Re: Non-drinker needing suggestions
Bailey's Irish Cream is nice in coffee, I bet you'd enjoy that.
Another you and your wife might enjoy are fuzzy navels. That's just orange juice with peach schnapps. There are lots of pre-made margaritas you're very likely to enjoy, too. If you go to the liquor store, just ask for help and suggestions. They're usually happy to share some ideas. |

Re: Non-drinker needing suggestions
The old standby... go with a 50/50 mix of champagne and orange juice. Champagne for the celbration and a little orange juice to make it a mimosa. Easy to drink... not likely to mess you up (unless you kill a whole bottle) and classy. Serve chilled in a champagne flute. Garnish with a maraschino cherry for a sweet treat at the bottom of the glass.

Re: Non-drinker needing suggestions
Most whiskey's(scotch and bourbon) are an acquired taste. Those that are good for sipping straight are generally more expensive, it would be a shame to spend $30-100 on something you may not enjoy. Irish and Canadian whiskey's are generally more approachable. Maybe Jamesons or Bushmills Irish or Crown Royal Canadian.
Kahlua, Frangelica or Ameretto may be something your wife might enjoy. Why not try something your next trip out. Rather than invest in spirits that may just sit in the cupboard after trying a single drink. Bailey's Irish Creme is always a good standby as mentioned above. |
Re: Non-drinker needing suggestions
I'm not a big drinker but I do enjoy a nice rum with a cigar now and then, here is a list of 10 and a short bit about each, I've tried only the Pusser's on the list and I did enjoy it. I usually go with Zaya, I enjoy it straight but there's no law against using it with a mixer, a good generic alcohol in case people are over and don't want something straight up.

Re: Non-drinker needing suggestions
Thanks guys, keep them coming. I thnk I may try the Whipped Cream Vodka. Is flavored schnapps good alone? Oh, and the honey whiskey was Wild Turkey - kind of want to try that.
