Please help me to identify this lighter
5 Attachment(s)
Hi,
Could anyone help me identify this St. Dupont lighter? I's Black Chinese Lacquer with documentation and original silk blue box. The owner said he got it on mid 70's and it has not been used and has lain in the box untouched. I got it today and very suspect, it's the real or fake? Please help and thank you in advance for your kindness. Very Best Regards, Wutty |
Re: Please help me to identify this lighter
Well, after some very close inspection.. I would say it definitely is a lighter. Lighters are great tools, and it looks like you got one. Enjoy!
P.S. -- You could always e-mail the makers of said lighter in regards to authenticity. Welcome to the Asylum. |

Re: Please help me to identify this lighter
I'm sorry, I wish I could help but, welcome aboard :salute: and you might want to wander over to the New Inmate Processing Area and introduce yourself.
http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=7 :hm I would imagine that S.T. Dupont lighter dating is a pretty esoteric pursuit, tough to do with just photos, but I see what looks like a serial number in photo 2, so perhaps contacting them with that might help. http://www.st-dupont-nyc.com/ You might want to check this out, as well: http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showth...821#post239821 |
Re: Please help me to identify this lighter
To me, the packaging does not look like that of a Dupont lighter from the 1970's.
Did they even make the Black Chinese Lacquer models back then? If it is indeed that old, it's going to need a servicing real soon or right now. It probably does not hold fuel for very long. Send it for service and you'll find out real fast if it is real or not. |
Re: Please help me to identify this lighter
Subvet642,
Thank for the email of Dupont NYC, it's very helpful. I got the answer from them, said "This lighter is was made in end of 70 beginning of eights l2 lighter" Thanks, Wutty |
Re: Please help me to identify this lighter
That serial number looks really clean and well done for a real Dupont. The paperwork and lighters looks to be in almost unbelievable condition for being from the 70's?

Looks to be legit as long as the pics are legit. Also one of the rarer finishes. Chinese Lacquer and Gold. Most I've seen are Chinese lacquer and palladium.

Re: Please help me to identify this lighter
I have the same lighter, I've had it for about 15+ years, came in a different box etc., look inside the top when you open it, there should be a plate that screws in (at least on mine) in the top of the cap with a serial number engraved on it.
