wood working tool question
I have the opportunity to purchase a Shopsmith Mark V and I wanted to know if anyone here has one or knows anything about them.
Here is the one I'm looking at getting. http://images.craigslist.org/3E43Gc3...8c78e6141c.jpg any info would be great. |

Re: wood working tool question
There is one of these in my father in laws shop. Haven't had the pleasure of playing with it yet so no help whatsoever there.

Re: wood working tool question
My dad has the same thing, but hasn't done much with it in years. It is a pretty slick piece of equipment with all the add on pieces that you can mount to it. Right there you already have a table saw, drill press, lathe and disc sander.

Re: wood working tool question
If your space is limited and you don't mind the multiple set-ups required, it's alright. The drawbacks are if the power unit goes out, you've got 5 dead tools. I always thought I wanted one of these back in the day, but if you've got the space, separate tools are the way to go.

Re: wood working tool question
I have been looking to get one of these but I realized that the use of the table saw would mean the unit would need to be in the middle of the room.
now moving a table saw every time you need it is not too bad but this thing looks heavy and awkward and the price varies a lot per attachments. I think I will go with separate parts unless I can find one of these loaded with all attachments for 400-500 not 800-1000 that I have seen it go for |
Re: wood working tool question
The one I'm looking at has an asking price of $650 but I'm pretty sure I can get it for less. I really wish I had the room for all separate tools, but I just don't.
