I had an idea last night.
 

I was tossing and turning last night trying to sleep and got to thinking about my new humi. I don't have sufficient beads for it yet (will order post-xmas) and not nearly enough sticks to fill it so I was wondering if my smokes would suffer. It occurred to me to use empty tupperware containers to fill in the blank space until proper stock is in place. Won't be pretty but I thought it was kinda funny, like a reverse coolidor.

I realize many on this board don't have this issue but hopefully it can help another BOTL in my position. :tu

Get a small cooler with your cigars and humidification.

This. I've been scheming a 150qt Colemandor, but can't justify it yet. Well...this week anyway. I grabbed my 15qt and have HF beads on the way. Till it comes in, I'm using a ziploc bag for my overflow with a Boveda pack inside.

As an aside, I discovered they (HF) have large bead tubes (instead of using bags)...so I've got one of those enroute.

Think I should? I will only be a few days until the beads come in and the new humi is nice and seasoned at this point.

If it's just a few days, don't sweat it. Unless you are in a desert climate, your cigars will be fine in any enclosed container.

it's a bit dry in the house with the heat on (Maryland) but not too bad. I have a medium sized tube of HF beads in my desktop now. Planning on ordering an X-Large tube xmas day. I'll keep an eye on it and if there's any major shift in humidity I can toss them in a cooler.

Depends on shipping schedules. I know I've been waiting a week for something that was supposed to be 3-day. Dern holiday traffic.

But again, I agree with pnoon. I'm using a ZipLoc and they're fine for a short stay. Provided a quit opening it for sniffs. Your mileage may vary.

Yep! Do you have a hygrometer? If runs too low, add a small glass of water until it come up into the range you are looking for. Mostly don't worry so much.

I have the new humi in my house with DW inside, it's just re-boxed and I'm not "allowed" to use it until xmas. So it should be well seasoned at this point. I do have a digi-hygrometer so I'll be able to monitor.

I just figured empty tupperware would reduce the amount of empty space so the beads would be sufficient until the big guns arrive. :)

It's an interesting concept for sure. But you are humidifying the interior wood areas right now, and that surface area will not chance with the amount of air space involved. If it's a big issue with humidity dropping off (cedar still absorbing a lot of humidity), make your own temporary humi-pack. Dampen a paper with DW (not soaked), put it inside a ziplock, leave the ziplock open. I always preferred this method to an open container of water inside my humi. I'm just way too apt to bumping my humi, or just being clumsy, and knocking the water over, thus bathing my cigars and humi in a mini-flood. With a dampened paper towel, no chance of that happening.
