So after years of Cigar smoking and Keeping

So after years of Cigar smoking and Keeping I opened my Humi last night to find.... A beatle... well 3 of those SOBs. Only one stick looks to be a victim. Illusion HL but I nearly cried!!! All are KIA but I'm wondering if I should go deep freeze or just keep a close eye on all my sticks? I hear good and bad things about popping them in the Freezer. Any Advice

I'm no expert but I freeze everything before it goes in my humi. I wouldn't think twice about throwing all of them back in if I found a beetle.

		Freeze them all, everytime.
Despite where you got them, better to be safe than sorry. |

Ehhh, I am not so much for freezing. I keep the best conditions I can, my ice chests have
a dedicated A/C vent just for them. I mean, I get what air tumbles OFF of em, but they get it first. But I am not a fan of self-freezing. I won't say DO what I do, I am one person, but I never freeze indiscriminantly. Not going to accidentally split or cheese up a bunch of cigars. I believe the people that do it are properly motivated, but it's not a cut and dried procedure owing to different conditions in nearly everyone's refrigeration devices. I always consider it more of a threat to my cigars than beetles. Earthquake Insurance. Take apart your storage and clean it out, inspecting all cigars and boxes. Keep an eye on your storage conditions..........................or freeze, who am I to say. |

Had a couple of those critters years ago. Now EVERYTHING that comes my way, into my house for storage, gets the freezer treatment, no matter the source. It only takes a little time but gives me peace of mind that only a mother's cuddle could otherwise provide.
My recipe: Totally sealed bags. Into the deep freezer at -10F. 3 full days later into the frig for a couple of hours. Open, smell, smile, then back into the cooler or humi. Have never had a problem with said beetles since and have never damaged a cigar. |
