WWF George Steele applies the "hammerlock" on the snk
I met Jim Myers (aka George the animal Steele) last Saturday (7/14) while at a Restaurant in Cocoa Beach FL........we talked a bit (long story short) and he wants to try SB-BBQ-S..........very nice guy and nothing like his ring persona (Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame Class of 2005 & WWF Hall of Fame Class of 1995) http://www.georgesteele.com/
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z...7/JimMyers.jpg so fast forward to today, we met up for lunch w/him & his wife Pat and another couple....we had a nice lunch w/lots of conversation about his career and all the folks he met along the way, lunch lasted a few hours. I gave him a jar of sauce when they first arrived at the diner and by the time we finished lunch, he had used a 1/4 of the jar.....after lunch we all got up to leave with plans of getting together again, soon........(hold'n a jar of SB-BBQ-S).........I look forward to our next luncheon http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z...MH07/GS721.jpg |

My favorite wrestler when I was first introduced to the sport. The green tongue and the turnbuckle biting amazed me when I was 6yrs old. He also did a great job in "Ed Wood".
Awesome, Alex! I'm jealous. |

Very cool!
My BIL has a cousin who used to be a pro wrestler and I think that he knew Steele. Gotta ask the BIL again so maybe you can ask George about him. There was a time when he could light up an arena just by walking in the door! Tell him that I'm still a fan!! |

Re: WWF George Steele applies the "hammerlock" on the snk
GOT to be more enjoyable than getting together with Memphis wrestling 'legend' Jerry "the King" Lawler. Don't get
me wrong, he paid his dues, and he is a reasonably enjoyable person to spend an hour with, but it can be tough getting around the persona. I think Jim Myers is probably pretty great and not intent on being a wrestler every moment or making sure that he is ON when you are around him. I shot a commercial with Lawler and he had to oil up his body first, all the while I am set up and ready to go, go inside and select a crown to use for his 5 second tag of endorsement, and it was all about the image. After I say all that, I must admit that he was being PAID to be The King, and shill for some minor concrete contractor. After that he took us inside for a soda and he has the GIANT coca-cola memorabilia room that was impressive. I guess people give him stuff because of who he is in addition to being an avid collector. But in the end, I was still left with the impression that makes me think you got the better "wrestler meeting" than me and Jesse did that day. But my greatest wrestling story was SHOOTING wrestling at the Silver Star Casino in Philly Mississippi.....THAT'S where I found out how it is really done, through the headset I wore. And Skandor Ackbar was there, haha. ALL of them very cool dudes, VERY cool. It was a who's who of 2nd tier old-school wrestlers and they could not have been nicer people. |
