American Tobacco?
Hey everyone, I was wondering today why we never see cigars made with American tobacco. I know theres plenty of it grown here. Why doesn't' it get put into cigars? Poor quality? Poor taste?

Re: American Tobacco?
I think there's a brand from Michigan that says they grow their own Tobacco in MI. I don't live there anymore, so I can't remember.

Re: American Tobacco?
You're in luck. Iirc Pete Johnson's La Casita Criolla is an American puro. Also, there's bunches of cigars with PA Broadleaf as a wrapper.
The more complete answer to you question is that well over 90% of America's production goes to cigarettes, pipes, and chew. |
Re: American Tobacco?
Connecticut shade is what many premium cigars are wrapped with! Grown in North Central Ct- Windsor area- "Tobacco Valley."

Re: American Tobacco?
Kentucky has a few companies that make some had rolled cigars. I think most American tobacco is grown for the cigarette, machine-made cigar and snuff/chew industry. :2

Re: American Tobacco?
Marsh Wheeling? Don't know if they're any good or not, but read a neat story about the company in Smoke magazine a few years ago.

there are a few wrappers and binders that come from the good ol' US of A. Connecticut shade Broadleaf is very popular in the cigar world. PA broadleaf is showing up more and more. Patel brothers features it and a few of AJ Fernandez's blends have it as a wrapper. PA broadleaf also shows up as a filler in the LHC CORE. |
Re: American Tobacco?
In this years Studio Tobac event sampler we have a concept blend that we made using all American tobacco. It came out very good! I'm excited for everyone to be able to try it.

Re: American Tobacco?
Another company that utilizes American tobacco in hand-rolled premium cigars is Black Patch Cigar Co. in Kentucky. I've smoked a few of their cigars and enjoyed them and the cigars' construction was very good.
Here's a link to their site: http://www.blackpatchcigarco.com/main/ Here's a quote from their site: Quote:

John Hay is another one.

Re: American Tobacco?
There is a burgeoning movement towards home-growing tobacco in the US. Many "specialty" growers exist, albeit on a much smaller scale than would be commercially viable......for now.

Re: American Tobacco?
PA Broadleaf has been one of the hotter wrappers in the market the last several years. It's been used by Patel, Diesel, La Herencia Cubana, 5 Vegas and Tatuaje reserva to name but a few.
Hey, nice to see another John Hay fan. |
