Diet menu?
Do any of you follow a menu plan? My new goal is to eat less then 1700 calories a day and would like to get some ideas for meals.

Re: Diet menu?
I don't follow a diet menu per say, but just cut back on the carbs a lot and eat a lot more veggies/fruit and lean proteins. Here's a typical day of meals for me (what I had today).
Breakfast 5.3oz greek no-fat yogurt 1/4c fresh blueberries multigrain english muffin 1oz peanut butter Lunch Chicken Taco salad from Qdoba. Light on the cheese, no sour cream. I only eat about 1/4-1/3 of the taco shell bowl. I also don't add the dressing to the salad. I dip my fork in it and take a bite that way. I use maybe an ounce of dressing instead of the 2-3 they give you. Dinner 4-5 oz bbq brisket (ok, not the leanest meat, but I made one over the weekend and need to eat it up. A lot of times it's chicken, shrimp, pork loin, etc) 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes 1/2 red bell pepper cut into strips 2oz multigrain bread Snack(s) 1oz almonds 1oz cheese stick Best bet is to get a program on your smartphone (if you have one) and track what you currently eat and see where you can cut back. There's also online sites that you can use too. |
Re: Diet menu?
How did you arrive at 1700? That sounds low if you are exercising too....

Re: Diet menu?
Salads and Chicken. Get to love them if you only want to eat 1700 calories. Get rid of bread most of the time and anything fried. It is actually pretty easy to stay under 1700 if you start making the healthier substitutions. Such as anything except fries with a combo meal.
If I am in a hurry, and need to get fast food, Char-grilled Chicken Sandwich from Chick-fil-a with Fruit Cup instead of fries is only 400 calories. |

Re: Diet menu?
Anthony I recommend checking out the 4-hour body's "Slow Carb" diet.
I dropped 30 lbs in 3.5 months on it. It is a little tough, but was the only thing I saw results from. I have the book and it is great. |
Re: Diet menu?
Check out Weight Watchers and the 17 day diet. Don't set yourself to a hard calorie count, but focus more on the types of foods you should restrict yourself on IMO.

Re: Diet menu?
There are lots of options out there but why not eat the way our ancestores did tens of thousands of years ago.
its called the paleo diet, you can eat fruits, meat (things that walk fly and swim), nuts and veggies. The only carbs you eat are those from veggies and fruits, you can eat as much as you want. The key of the "diet" is that you stop using carbs as your energy source and start using fats. there is a book by robb wolf thats really great. This new life style is working great for my wife and I, we have lots of energy always full and loosing weight! |
