More enjoyment at 60%
Recently, I have been enjoying my smokes alot drier than I used to. I have noticed a much better burn and what I am percieving as better flavors. I am thinking that the flavors are more due to not having to try to suck the cigar inside out through the cap since I am drawing so hard than the RH. I am not really sure what the exact RH is at the moment, seeing as one of my hygros died the other day and the others are just as old, but I am assuming drier than what I used to smoke at since there is a noticable (and positive) difference on burn, flavor, and draw.
I am not interested in a discussion of why one RH is better for aging or this or that, there are a million threads for that. I was just wondering what do you all find to be a good RH for you for your actual smoking. I also have no intention of replacing my hygros either, does anyone run without them and what are your results if you do. |
Re: More enjoyment at 60%
I keep my three vinos at 62-63 and love the way my sticks smoke. :D

Re: More enjoyment at 60%
65 tops...also, make sure your hygro is properly calibrated.

Re: More enjoyment at 60%
Mines at 60-62, smoking great.

Re: More enjoyment at 60%
Mine's at 59.993% Smoking horribly. Don't cross that line...

Re: More enjoyment at 60%
I never go higher than 65. That's usually after I rehydrate my beads. Once they settle 63 is about average

Re: More enjoyment at 60%
63.3 no more, no less.
This is a little known subset of the ironclad rule of threes. |
Re: More enjoyment at 60%
I keep mine around 62-65 and love it.

63-65 is the sweet spot for me. My dad likes 70-72 tho... I guess it all depends on what you enjoy.

I'm with everyone here. 62-63 for me.

Re: More enjoyment at 60%
62-64. To answer your other question, I don't trust my hygros completely. I sort of use it as a general reference point when rehydrating my beads, but if they are smoking good, then you know where you want your hygro to read. When mine reads 67, they aren't smoking well. So I go with 62-64.

Re: More enjoyment at 60%
i check mine every couple months as long as its not below 58 or over 68 i dont care.

Re: More enjoyment at 60%
I've been smoking soggy, rott cc's and they're awesome. They're so wet they've driven my winador up to 69%. I might just keep them this way forever, even if I have to relight every ten minutes.

Re: More enjoyment at 60%
depends on the cigars but generally low 60's is my target.
During the humid summer months try and keep my cigars closer to 60. During the winter months let it creep up towards 65. The issue for me is the last half of the cigar in summer can get pretty soggy, 5% may not help that much in the real world, but in my head it makes all the difference. :) |
Re: More enjoyment at 60%
Like many of you, I keep my cigars at 61-62%, and that's what I prefer for both flavor and "smokability".

Re: More enjoyment at 60%
Dunno. I don't use a hygro. They are smoking well at where they are right now, though. :D
