Interesting Statistics thread
 
I'm an economics major so stats always were interesting to me as they provide a glimpse into the "facts" of most arguments. Feel free to post statistics here that you find interesting.

I'll start:

In 2009 47% of of people employed in the United states paid no federal income taxes.

many American households—up to forty per cent of the total—are entitled to a receive a check from the U.S. Treasury because their tax credits are larger than their tax liabilities. AKA have a negative tax rate.

1% of the taxpayers make 19% of the income and pay 37% of the taxes. This is the group you want to be in...

47.3% of all statistics are made up on the spot...
98% of lawyers give the rest a bad name.
4 out of 3 have trouble with fractions..

Percentage of the public that understand the new tax code: 11%

Percentage of accountants who understand it: 9%

Percentage of IRS employees who understand it: 6%

Legend also has it that 98.2% of all B&M cigars are made from better tobacco than internet cigars.
