Dave Megget Sentenced to 30 Years

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Authorities say former NFL player David Meggett has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after his conviction in a South Carolina courtroom on charges of criminal sexual conduct and burglary.

A Charleston County jury returned the verdict late Wednesday after getting the case earlier in the day, authorities told South Carolina media outlets. Authorities say Meggett raped a college student at her house in North Charleston in January 2009.

Meggett, who attended high school in North Charleston, was a running back and punt returner for 10 years in the National Football League. He played six years with the New York Giants, three with the New England Patriots and one with the New York Jets.

He did not take the stand in his defense, and his lawyer says he will appeal.

Sorry to hear that he went so wrong. I really enjoyed watching him play when he was with the Pats.

Damn why have I not heard this anywhere else? Anybody that rapes somebody needs to die in my book, that is F'ed up!

I used to watch him play at Towson University, my Alma Mater. A damn shame he turned out to be this.

I saw this on the news this morning, but didn't hear why he was sentenced. If it is true then I am with the rest who say throw away the key. Loved him as a kid watching Giants football. LT too, he didn't turn out to be the best role model either.
