Sad day for Prog Rock/Metal fans
Mike Portnoy posted on FB a few hours ago that he's leaving Dream Theater.
As I was telling a friend, maybe this could be a good thing. It might open up the other guys to write more songs since Portnoy and Petrucci did all the writing since I believe Falling Into Infinity. We'll see. |

What? That sucks... Portnoy and Petrucci were incredible together

Re: Sad day for Prog Rock/Metal fans
Yep. I was floored when I read it. Still gotta give him the respect to walk away from his baby. Sounds like his heart just wasn't in it anymore.

Re: Sad day for Prog Rock/Metal fans
That is a bummer. But maybe it'll mean more Liquid Tension albums. I would honestly be very surprised if Portnoy and Petrucci stopped working together, since Portnoy Brought Petrucci in (on his wife's suggestion, I believe) on LTE.
I'm sure all the guys will keep on makin music, and I'm sure it'll all be good. Probably quite different, though. |
Re: Sad day for Prog Rock/Metal fans
I swear to God if Pert leaves Rush after this Im going to declare the apocolypse of music.
I mena look at last year look at everyone who died in rock/metal. Jimmy the rev, Dio, and paul gray. Now we have portonoy leaving arguably the most talented prog band of our time? Truly truly sad for music. |
Re: Sad day for Prog Rock/Metal fans
Is Portnoy staying in Avenged Sevenfold then at least?

Re: Sad day for Prog Rock/Metal fans
That sucks for Dream Theater, so hopefully he'll at least stay with Avenged Sevenfold, because they've said they're not sure about the future of the band right now.
