Joya de Nicaragua Antano Dark Corojo Review

Got a few of these from Atlantic in different sizes and tried my first today in the Robusto size.

Gorgeous to look at, a really classy stick with very nice construction. The color is very alluring like a fine African hardwood.

I pulled it from a 68 / 67% humidor and in retrospect should have dry-boxed it for a day or two. Draw was a tad tight and the cigar soon yielded almost too easily to pressure.

An odd thing I noticed prior to lighting was a couple of tiny "sticks" that were visible in the clipped end. My Palio actually struggled to cut it (a first) A little larger than broom straw they seemed a tad out of place in an otherwise beautifully rolled cigar.

This stick is a reminded me a lot of a Cohiba Madura 5 with strong flavor made up of leather and earthy grass. A few puffs in I could taste strong molasses and even ripe figs.

The cigar was never harsh, but packs a solid punch. Not for the smoker who likes a mild cigar.

The burn was good to about 1/3 with an ash that refused to simply drop off. Perhaps the aforementioned "sticks" kept it so solid? Burn got a little bizarre at the mid point and it showed signs of a convex "coning" no doubt brought about by the exterior carrying more humidity that it should have to make it optimal.

A single re-light got it burning smooth again and it remained that way to the 1.5 inch mark where I committed to the earth. A small irritation was the clipped end began to unroll despite being cut only halfway thru the cap. No biggie, slid the label down and keep it from unravelling

On a side note, A Maduro 5 will have you smoking it until your fingers burn

It continued to deliver increased flavor and intensity yet was never bitter. You could also really taste the nicotine as it shortened.

Not sure exactly what they cost but I think around 7-$8.

I rate this cigar about an 88 but I honestly think it could easily score a 90 if I had given it the benefit of a little drying. (something I'll do when I light up the belicosa I am sitting on)

Next up; A good old Oliva Serie "O" Churchill with a year and half on it.

Thanks for the review--I'm a big fan of the JDN Anton consul's. I'll give these a try.

Don't be scared to dry-box it for a day or even two... This thing is packed with tobacco and stays almost too moist at anything over 65%. My next one will get 2 whole days in a plain cedar box that sits at about 40% Heavy on the nicotine... eat a banana first (especially if enjoying with liquor)

Nice review. This is a very good cigar IMO. Kind of strong but not overly.
Good pricepoint as well.

These look great but haven't had the chance to try one. I love the Antano line so these should be right up my alley. Need to find some to try.
