Happy Bastille Day!

Yeah, I know a number of you still have a bug up your butt about the French, but I feel we should all take a moment to wish them well. After all, they were our first friend, our first ally, and we may not be the nation we are today without their aid and assistance. Plus, what did they really do to lick the red off your candy anyway? They warned us not to get bogged down in the Middle East, just like they drew on their experience in Algeria and at Dien Bien Phu to warn us not to get bogged down in Africa and in Southeast Asia. You ask me, I'd say that's being a good friend, and to hell with saying only what one wants to hear.

OK, you can start the venting now.

I was only in France for a few hours but I liked what I saw. Whatever town in France is directly attached to Geneva, Switzerland has a great asian restaurant.

I went to France for about 5 minutes. We drove into the county and then turned around and continued on our way to Amsterdam. At least I can say that I went to France and did not have a bad time.

They gave us the guillotine. Should we use it?

They work great on fat cigars.

Ya gotta love the French. They gave us the bidet and cologne.
You can wash a small percentage of your body then use perfume to cover up the other stinky areas.:usa

(Please know that I'm the first male in generations of my family that is not pure French. I think I have a free hand to bash my brethern. They make great cheese and champagne, but what's with the attitude? N'est-ce pas?

I was in France for three weeks, twenty years ago, in a high school exchange program. I was at Rouen, Caen and Mont St. Michel before spending the rest of the time in Paris. I saw the Normandy beaches, the remmant of the church where Joan of Arc was condemned, an amazing medieval church that was all wood (and still in use), an open air market so fresh the fish was literally still moving, and the Bayeux tapestry. And that was before we got to Paris.

What I never saw, even in Paris, was a bad attitude from French people.

No, that would be July 29th the same day as my wife's b-day, but thanks for the reminder

And again it is Bastille Day. Funny about that . . . it seems to come around this time every year. :D

Our friends refused to allow us to fly over French territory on April 14, 1986, on a retaliatory bombing attack against Libya. This added 2,600 total nautical miles to the journey from England and back.

It was a bummer that US Forces accidently dropped a bomb on the French Embassy in Tripoli during the mission.

You mean, as opposed to the purposeful release by our loyal ally England of the Locherbie bomber Meghari back to Libya?

Not trying to get political, even if that wasn't against the rules . . . just trying to be honest and fair.
