Happy Memorial Day!

Siglo IV Limited Reserve

First, let me just ask that everyone remember those who have given their lives for this great country. Those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy the freedoms we do every day. And let's not forget those who currently serve and the sacrifices they make when they leave their friends and families behind to make sure those that have made that ultimate sacrifice do not do so in vain. God Bless the America!

Today's cigar is another one sent to me by Matt with Tex Cigars. For some reason, (clearing throat), this cigar looks very familiar. The Siglo IV Limited Reserve Robusto. And yes it looks a lot like the Cuban Cohiba. Even has the same name, sort of. This is one of the many cigars which are produced by Altadis USA.

First impressions are very good. This is one good looking cigar. It's made in Nicaragua, with an Ecuadorian Cubano Wrapper. It has a Nicaraguan Binder with both Nicaraguan and Dominican Filler. First few draws and you immediately understand that this is a full strength cigar. The cigar produces tons of grayish white smoke. It has a wonderful woodsy, tobacco flavor.

The ash held on like a champ and fell after passing the inch mark. I love the way this cigar looks, feels and tastes. This is what a cigar experience should be.

The burn is jagged but even.

The flavors are consistant past the halfway point and have mellowed. Very smooth and still packing that full flavor. That is a hard task to accomplish. A lot of the full flavored cigars I have smoked in the past tend to bite back. Not this one.

With about an inch left and it's start to burn hot. I hate to put this one down but reluctantly, I do.

Overall, this is one great cigar. Not for the beginner or the Macanudo smoker. (No offense to Maconudo smokers!) I would highly recommend this cigar. This will become a permanent fixture in my humidor.

If they are capable of putting out a cigar that's as good as your review makes it sound, Why not make an original name and band for it. I loved your review but I would not buy this cigar due to it's blatant Cohiba rip off.

You mean unlike the Cohiba, Partagas, HdM, H Upmann, Trinidad, San Cristobal, etc. NC brands? :D

Cohiba, the brand, has always been owned by the communist government in Cuba.

Upmann, HdM, RyJ, and Partagas are in a different boat as these companies and their brands were stolen by Castro from their rightful owners.

I do not know if the companies producing these with NC tobacco have purchased the trademark/names from their rightful owners or not. If they have, they have more of a right to the name than the communist government in Cuba.

I do agree that stealing the Cohiba name is lame.

I can't wait to watch the frenzy over brand names once the embargo is eventually lifted.

Going to be a mess 4 sure.

Threadjack: It will be a mess, but maybe not as big a mess as predicted. Altadis owns the rights to a lot of the NCs with Cuban names -- Montecristo, San Luis Rey, H Upmann, Trinidad, RyJ, Por Larranaga, etc. -- and it also owns 50% of Habanos. If the embargo is ever lifted, I'd expect that they'll work something out.

Where it gets interesting will be the NC brands owned by General Cigar -- Cohiba, Partagas, Punch, HdM, Bolivar, LGC, Sancho Panza, etc. There will certainly be a fight over the rights to those names in the US. In fact, there already has been a fight, and a couple of years ago General Cigar won a court ruling that it (and not Cubatabaco) has rights to the Cohiba name in the US.

Threadjack over

Great review. I do like the fact that the band and even name are designed to make you do a double take... anyway, I will have to pick up one of these Kohibas.

I tried one this week, it ended with me over a back deck nearly puking. It was f'ing horrible.

Despite the detestable marketing I thought this was a decent, but boring smoke. Not bad, meaning it didn't have me puking over the side (that would be worse than bad I think) but not particularly distinctive or memorable either.

After knocking this cigar my GF read my post and picked me up one and said you should at least try it. Well I tried it. It is not something I would buy again . Full bodied and nothing but a somewhat harsh tobbaco flavor.

I figure I can resurrect this thread since I just had one of these. I have to say that it is not a bad cigar at all. Burn was awesome, ash held on a real long time, construction was very good and the taste was real good. I will smoke another one:tu
