NC's with that CC "twang" ???

Since freefalling down both slopes in a short matter of time, I had always thought I could tell a CC from a NC...till today.

I revisited a Davidoff Millenium and if the bands werent on, I would've bet the farm that I was smoking a CC. Anyone else ever get this? If not with the Davidoff, maybe with any another NC? I'm not talking about "the closest thing to a cuban"....but totally possessing that "Cuban twang".

Never totally gotten it. The closest thing would have been a Tatuaje brown-label. I immediately thought "Interestingly Cuban-y."

I've had it more often in reverse. Smoked Cuban cigars that I probably wouldn't have guessed Cuban blind.

It's funny you should mention the Tats....Ive always said the brown labels, el trianfandor and la riqueza are the "closest thing".....but the Davidoff Millenium I had today was "IT"!

Its kind of like asking what type of sushi tastes most like venison? It is the goal of many blenders to emulate the Cuban taste, but although some may have hints of the flavor, its a bit difficult without the tobacco. :2

Maybe not the twang right on, but I think Padron Longsdales taste very similair to an aged VR; like smoking a chocolate bar.

wow, well said!

I guess the most twang I've noticed in a NC were from the Bobalu vintage '92s. I only bought like 5 at the time and didn't reorder when they were gone but jeez those were good.

A few months ago I was in Austin and decided to pick up another 5. They're good but they don't have as much twang as I remember.

I've had some Padilla '68 robustos that had a nice twang. I've read some others have felt the same. I do love those Davidoff Millennium's.

I would love to see a list once this Thread is more complete.

BTW - I've only had one Davidoff and have to agree it was very twangy!!!

I've had two sticks that made me think CC. While they had there differences... they both made my think of certain CCs I've smoked. Both were Pepin blends... Blue corona gorda and 601 Green corona.

The Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 Robusto I smoked tonight was very twangy but definitely not Cuban. I've had some twangy Habanos Torres sticks too.

While I didn't think that it did, I have heard a few people say that the Cabiguan Guapos reminded them of a CC. It was good no doubt, very good, but I didn't see any CC comparison.

I don't get the "twang" from NC's, but there are a lot of cigars I've smoked I couldn't even begin to tell you the origins of.

I can see smoking them where some extremely careful work has been done to blend a lot of cigars to be close to, but vastly unique from, that Cuban flavor.

Cabaiguan Guapos RX, I looked down and could have been smoking a Monte (Edmundo). A few aged DPG Blue really had it too.

The other Guapos & Tat Browns as well. The good batches of these have that real Cuban flavor profile and elegance IMHO.

I think its funny how we all have different ways of describing that unique Cuban quality. Twang. chocolate bar. To me it taste like cream soda. (this is one of the reasons I don't use specific descriptors typically in my reviews). And I have not found that quality in any NC. Of course I'm not really looking I prefer a fuller bodied smoke.

One. A few years ago. "Cuban Leaf", a cheap bundle cigar made by Tabacalera Tropical. I was amazed.

They have since changed the line to short filler. I grabbed a bundle and ended up tossing them. Then bought a box of them thinking maybe the bundle was short fill and the box was long fill. Sent them back after smoking 2. :(

Just think of how many Cubans are priced lower than NC Davidoffs... :hm:D

Not that price is a major factor to some of us....

BD1 is right here, I smoked a few of these recently, and even though blend is short filler, I got this cedary sweet citrus twang thing going on with some spice. I think its the connecticut/habano crossbreed wrapper on them. A really good smoke for less than 2.00 bucks. Found here in boxes of 50 or bundles of 20
