Fringe

Anyone been watching this show on Fox? One of the best shows I've seen in awhile, quite refreshing from the usual crap that is on TV. Dr. Bishop is one of the most unique characters I've seen on TV in years.

Walter: "Do you have any cocaine?"
Peter: "No!"
Dr. Bishop: "Oh - That's too bad. You'll have to shock her heart then."

I TRIED to not watch this for some reason, why I don't know, but this damn show is awesome. And your right that crazy dude is a great actor, hell he might be running around in here. Watch it every week.

Re: Fringe

I really enjoyed this show when it first started, but by the 4th ep or so I lost interest. The concept is good, and Walter is the best part of the show and a great character. But, after a couple episodes it became less "haha, guy stuck in an institution for years makes some off the wall comment" and more "oh, here comes Walter's line this episode."

Like I said I liked the concept but the acting just didn't live up to it for me. It went from something to I wanted to watch every week to something I'd stop on if flipping through but not make a point to watch. Overall not bad, but not great, just my :2

Another formulaic show, but very entertaining. One of the few shows I watch week to week rather than waiting for the whole season. The acting wasn't that great at the beginning, but it began to pick up after the few episodes.

Well, I won't drop any spoilers then. The first ep was interesting. I'm looking forward to this season.

Isn't it made by the same company or writers as the show "LOST"? I like the show a lot. Didn't know the new season started tonight though.

I watch this, and enjoy it. To me, it's not as lost as "Lost" is. Fringe is weird for a reason, although I haven't figured out what that reason might be. Lost was just weird to be weird - who knew WTF was going on there? Hey, even the actors didn't understand it.

Great show.. This along with House, Chuck, The Office and Heroes are my favorite shows. :tu

Re: Fringe

So apparently the big plotline, at least for for the start of the season, will be what happened to Dunham in the alternate universe.

I am working my way through Season 1 of Fringe.

So far I think it's a decent show, but the episodes have been kind of redundant.

Something weird happens, Walter Bishop pulls some crazy experiment out of his ass and saves the day.

Does the story ever deviate from this? :ss

You must be watching a different show...I've never seen Walter's ass, therefore never seen anything pulled out of said ass...

Did anyone else think is CRAZY that 'chuck' (the agent who was killed) was back last week?! The DVR recorded it, but was it supposed to be a pilot or what? That agent is dead!

I had the same thought. I think the character's name is Charlie.

muhren 01-15-2010 07:57 AM

Re: Fringe

Charlie...that's right! Error you think, or are they calling the audience stupid and just plopping him back in?!

I'm not sure why they did it but they have to know the fans are not stupid.

Re: Fringe

Are you guys talking about Monday? The ep last week was a repeat of the one with the guy from the alternate universe who had implanted Walter's memories in other people.
There was a new ep Monday (which we missed because Two And a Half Men and Big Bang Theory were also new) and a new one last night.

Yep. The Monday episode was, to the best of my knowledge, new. And Charlie was in it. Very strange. Of course, strange is what Fringe is all about.

According to Zap2It, it was an unaired season 1 ep. And Abrams said Fringe would be less confusing than Lost... :r

It would have helped us had they mentioned that at the beginning or something!

The whole time we're like, what is this? Some alternate universe / time jump?!

Neuromancer 01-15-2010 04:49 PM

Re: Fringe

TBH, it should have been pretty easy for the viewers to realize it was just an unaired episode from when Charlei was still alive...I watch it...it's great...twilight zone and x-files all wrapped up in one...:tu

Re: Fringe

IMDB Goofs set me up for this one: So was I the only one to notice the "misspelling" of Manhatan at the beginning of last night's episode. It seemed kind of strange for a series where the smallest detail can wind up a major plot point. As soon as they showed the merged guy, I realized I'd been had.

Re: Fringe

This is a great show. I just got caught up and am on schedule for the 4/1 return.

I am really curious how Olivia is going to handle finding out Peter is from the alternate universe. It was fairly certain to me early on this was the case because Walter mentioned before "He's already died once" or something like that.

I don't think Olivia is going to make a big deal about it or anything. I mean, it's not like he's been a problem.

Thoughts?

Kreth 02-16-2010 02:34 PM

Re: Fringe

With my amazing grasp of the obvious, I figured out what was going to happen almost a full minute in advance... :r
It seemed strange to me that Walter didn't see that coming. Was that supposed to be a by-product of his general eccentricity?
Also, I honestly can't remember, did we ever find out what happened to the alternate Dunham? Did she have a goatee?

I do not believe that we did.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Olivia and Peter were together in the alternate universe? Walter keeps making a lot of comments about the two of them becoming an item.

I'm thinking the other Dunham must be dead, or "our" Dunham would have ended up like the merged guy in the last episode, when she met Bell.

Didn't Walter fetch the other Peter right after "our" Peter died? So he would've been 7 or 8, kinda young to be dating...

That is correct, according to previous episodes.

Haven't seen the latest yet, and this is not helping! Maybe in the morning, while everyone else is sleeping in.....

Forgot to add a smiley on the end of my last post, sounds kinda prickish without. Sorry.
We don't know enough yet about the rules between the two universes, so I could be wrong about the other Dunham.

I wonder if they are going to try to bring the alternate universe Charlie back. Isn't it odd he just died and that was it? No funeral? No telling his wife, etc?

Interesting. They are kinda thin in supporting cast with him gone and the plot with Dunham's fiance wrapped up last season. Although, they have started featuring Astrid more this season.

What about that Junior Agent who was in a few of the episodes, she was on scene when Olivia went through the windshield?

I don't remember any explanation as to where she went (she was just on the one ep, IIRC). I guess we were just supposed to assume that she got sent back down to the minors with Dunham back in action.

Too bad really, she seemed into everything that was going on. I think she might make an interesting addition to the team.

Well, at least they didn't kill her off. When she first showed up, I was a little afraid that they were going to start having "red shirt" agents.

That sounds about right. I don't think they're airing new eps until the beginning of April.
