C-Bid Habits

When was the last time you bought something there?

It's been more than a year for me. I'm just wondering if others still use it a lot?

Re: C-Bid Habits

I used it a few days ago. Still a lot of people, bidding is pretty fierce.

More like never watching two full breasted women in a mud fight, arms flialing, slipping and slidding, than realizing that they should be friends and begining to make out while tou...

You are missing out.

I use it from time to time.....
I'd say about 6-8 times a year.
I'm always looking for particulars at a particular price though.:tu

Re: C-Bid Habits

I rarely use C-Bid anymore just because I can usually find a good price with all the coupons available without such a hassle. I also find myself trying to support my local B&M more often, that is mostly for singles though.

The last time I used C-Bid was to pick up some C.A.O Flavours (I know, I know) for a friend. I SWEAR they were for a friend that doesn't smoke often and wanted to look cool on vacation. :pu

I'm checking out the Graycliffs daily and the Man O' War lately. They have both been going pretty high. I think I got my last shipment from them about 3 weeks ago.

Re: C-Bid Habits

In the last two months I've bought 5ers of 601 blue robusto, padron londres maduro, LFD chiselitos mad, DPG JJ, DPG JJ mad, DPG black perla, LGC Serie R#5 mad, Partagas black classico, La Aroma de Cuba, CAO Italia. One box of CAO gold maduro and a bundle of Flor de Oliva. Whew, when you say it like that it looks like I have a problem. I got a bid on a box right now. I think its time to put my cc in a safe.

Best part is that I got everything well below Cbid average (THANKS ~MG~) with some setting records for low.

I've been able to avoid Cbid, despite my knowledge of that particular site for nearly 8 months. Every day is a struggle, believe me.

I've only looked twice... :ss

About the only time I bid is when they have the private "email only" auctions. I've got some pretty good deals.

Cant remember the last time I used C-bid. although I'll look around it atleast once a month usually, nothing against C-bid great prices and service, its just as my stash of cigars has grown I'm trying to smoke more and buy less, I've just been picking up singles at a few local B/M latley.

I have a pretty big habit. Lastest boxes were 2006 GOF Don Carlos, Pepin Blue Torps, LFD Factory Press II's, Camacho Diploma's to name a few.

I can't take credit for this, but if you are still using cbid make sure you check out:

http://www.c-h-i-m-p.com/

I think I stopped using cbid because of the dark side. I still do browse it and I still encourage new smokers to "shop" there.

Re: C-Bid Habits

I've got a couple of bids pending right now but I definitely use CB differently than I used to. I'm pretty much looking for something specific now and patiently place some bids and see how it goes. I'm still a noob though so I do use it to try out thngs on occasion as well. I just don't go and place bids all across the board like I used to. Got stuck with too many things I didn't really enjoy.

Waynegro1 10-16-2008 10:03 AM

Re: C-Bid Habits

I haven't placed a bid in about two months. When I do, I bid and walk away. If I win great, if I don't, that's ok to. I find the msrp and bid slightly under and that's that. I'm not going to get caught up in a bidding war for over priced sticks.

CoroHo 10-16-2008 10:07 AM

Re: C-Bid Habits

Coupla weeks for me. That evil farking place is great as long as you check prices somewhere else before bidding or increasing your bid. It's too easy to gt caught up in a bid war and lose money!

Beer Doctor 10-16-2008 10:09 AM

Re: C-Bid Habits

Before I bid I do a lot of research. I use the comparison shopper on cigarcylopedia.com and CHIMP. I make sure never to bid more than below average sale price on CHIMP and make sure I can't get it cheaper retail. Then I constantly check my bid history to see if I'm still winning...probably a little OCD along with not wanting to work:D I put a stop to all my spending on cigars after all my shipments recently came in but then I checked cbid Wed and saw they had RP sun grown pcs. I've been wanting a box for awhile and got them pretty cheap. I'm now going to go to cbid and delete my cc info so I can't shop at work anymore:D

cbsmokin 10-16-2008 10:10 AM

Re: C-Bid Habits

When I used cbid I used a percentage system. I would check a few major internet sites prices and only bid up to 65% of that. If it was something really popular or that I really wanted I might go to 75%, but that was it. I lost a lot of bids, but I new that if I "won" I got a fair deal.

I think part of why I stopped using the site was becuase even 75% was rarely enough anymore.

No problem, just mentioned it in case you didn't see it. It was a good tool when it was updated.

So far I haven't been able to go an entire week without ordering something.
Then I remember I need to order a few more items to justify the shipping costs.

I only get a special now and then. I won't buy anything from there unless it's $20 or more discount off box price.

Re: C-Bid Habits

I stop in when I know I am looking for something specific and I stick to that and pretty much ignore all the other auctions. I do this when I know I want something and I figure I will try and score a deal first. If it fails I will just go my usual route of picking up a box.
The problem with C-Bid is often times when it's first discovered by a smoker or a newer smoker is directed to it you get on these bidding tears where your bidding on anything and everything and eventually you find out half of what you won is not to your liking and your stuck with an excess of smokes that you know you will never smoke. Now your stuck taking up precious humidor space until you either sell off what you bought or give it away. I know when I first found C-Bid I had a ton of smokes that I got really cheap but at the same time I wasn't sure if I would like them all. I would say about 50% of it ended up being buried for months until I got rid of them and the higher end stuff on C-Bid tends to get ridiculous where you can more often than not just go to CI and get it cheaper without the hassle of an auction.

Always do your research before you bid on cbid . :tu

Re: C-Bid Habits

I used to use it alot up until about a year or so ago. It seemed like people started bidding the prices up to, and over prices available at other online vendors. Plus you had to wait until it ended.
I agree w/ Bob, you just have to be patient. Bid low, bid one time, and dont keep upping your price. Get a "set" price in your mind and stick w/ it.

I prefer cigarsatyourprice.com. I've bought alot throught them and no need to worry abut bidding. Of course sometimes they are out of stock on the ones you want, but overall my experience with them has been good.

I frequently browse what's ending soon to see if there is something I am looking for that has snuck by unnoticed.....safe to say that I have yet to place a bid. :sad

The only problem with them is they seem to always be out of stock for what I'm looking for

Cbid is a good site. I have found better deals using the JRCigars auction and Dutch Auction site. The key is researching ahead of time so you know when to cut loose and when to stay the course...Just my $0.02
