#16 is due - just a matter of time now

Well, started with some intense pain a few hours ago that soon subsided tolet me go back to sleep again...........until about 15 minutes ago.

#16 is on its way. Its destiny has been set now.
I wonder what I will name this one?
I wonder if I will be spared from enduring hours of pain or days.
I am seriously thinking about a trip to teh ER right now and the morphine and that buzz to the back of the neck as the injection goes through my veins.
That is probably the only good thing I get out of these darn kidney stones.

Since we are in a new year, I guess that now makes it 16 in 16 yrs.
Happy Birthday Stone!!!......well, soon hopefully.:D

Well guys, painful yes but at least, this one came and went fast.
At 5:05 am, one heck of a monster was born.
The biggest stone I have ever passed by far.
I was quite fortunate that I didn't need to go to the ER.
The aftermath is quite draining.
Need to rest.

While 16 stones is quite an impressive number by any standard, I guess I have a ways to go for the record of 421.

Funny you say that.
Has nothing to do with it.
I actually seldom drink soda.
Sugar has no effect on stones.
Stress not found to be related.

They are caused by calcium oxilate.
That is found in just about all foods but specially high on some things such as spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, brussel sprouts, fruits such as strawberries or anything ending in "erries", on and on and on.
In addition, sodium is believed to be a culprit.
If you see the actual list of what one who suffers from stones can in fact eat, the only thing pretty much left on it is water. Heck if I want to live eating water.:D

Some people like me have a chemistry composition that just traps the calcium in the kidney, little by little forming a stone or a few, as opposed to having the kidney let the oxilate escape via the urine. I am actually on medication to assist in the prevention of them. That lasted since July when I had my last one. I guess the bright side is I had 6 months or so stone free.

Well, as tired as I am, tried going back to sleep for a while but that is just not going to happen.

You have no idea how many times I have been there, done that in the last 16 yrs.
I have been told I qualify as "chronic".
Diet doesn't seem to slow them down so gave up eating water for the most part and went back to real food.
Drugs don't seem to be helping either. I am on hydrochlorothiazide and still got them again.
Good thing they didn't also say "contagious".:r

I was supposed to do one of those 24 hr urine observations/test and never did.
I think this one will get me to piss in that container for the next 24 hrs and send it in to be further analyzed.

Re: #16 is due - just a matter of time now

The real funny thing here is my brother in law in NJ competes with me.
He started it.
I then go my first after him.
After that, I have always maintained the lead, with him following close behind.
Can't wait to call him and break the news to him.
He will immediately realize that means his is around the corner.
Must be something in the Cuban blood that we both produce so many.
Perhaps the common trait is we are married to sisters.
THAT's IT!!!
It is our wives that cause them.
Darn, the answer was right before my eyes the whole time.:r:r:r

Re: #16 is due - just a matter of time now

When I had my longest running one (intermittant, medium pain instead of the gut wrenching agony that some of them brought), the doctor gave me a strainer to "catch" the stone in.

After a week and a half of taking the thing everywhere....restaurants, friends' homes, work, etc....I said **** it.

I always tell people you have the biggest stones of all.
What do you carry them around in, a kevlar sack?

Glad to hear it was a quick one, buddy. May your MTBD be long.

I went to emergency room with mine. I was in so much pain I couldn't stand up straight. They had me do the strainer thing, and when it finally passed, I was like "Are you f**king kidding me?!" I guess I was expecting a boulder. :r

Most folks have the same initial experience.
I have found the smaller they are, the more painful.
The tiny ones have a tendency to have sharp edges and move around quite a bit, hence cutting you up inside.
The bigger ones are more "docile" and generally drop a whole lot faster.
The problem is when they get so big you can't pass them.
The method they use for getting them out is not humane, or at least, not even remotely comprehensible to the average person.

OK,
Time to get sick.

Re: #16 is due - just a matter of time now

WARNING!!! STONES!!!

The newborn, "Jupiter", is on the left.
As you can see, a healthy, 1/8" baby. However, he does look like that sphere in Star Wars after it got partially blown up.
For comparison, "Pluto", is on the right. Pluto was born in July, the second stone I passed in a 48 hour period.

Nope. Won't let you off that easy Perry.
You want to hear about someone enjoying an old Cuban Dunhill or you want to experience it yourself to really know the feeling?

I'm sure Carlos is hoping all of them are EXITING. And it is probably EXCITING for him when they do.:r

Good God Carlos, that thing is huge!! I've only ever had one of these and hope like hell I never have another one. I was at work and they took me to the ER. I was white as a sheet. They took me back and told me to piss in a cup and this rock came rolling out. I was like, are you kidding me? This is what was making me think I was dying? I couldn't imagine having one as big as what you passed.

All of you that have posted that have passed at least one can certainly imagine.
I am so glad I am able to laugh about it after only four hours or so of "labor".
Last July, spent three trips to the ER of at least 6 hours each and lots of morphine and IV's, all in a 48 hour period to pass two stones.
This one was easy and the bigger they are, believe it or not, the less painful.
