 Soda vs Cola vs Pop

Soda vs Cola vs Pop So most of us drink Pepsi or Coke or some other smiliar brand of soft drink. The question is what do you refer to it as. This seems to vary from region to region. Do you call it Soda, Cola, or Pop? For me it is soda. |

:tpd: Normally the conversation goes something like this: Them: What would you like to drink? Me: Coke Them: Pepsi okay? Me: Whatever. According to the posted map I'm suppose to be in the "soda" calling area. But nope - everything is 'coke" unless it's Sprite. Sprite is Sprite the rest are coke. Ron |

Re: Soda vs Cola vs Pop

Growing up the in the 50's and 60's we'd just call it by the generic term,,,,coke. There wasn't the grocery store lineup like there is now with a bazillion name brands of soft drinks. When we were asked, " Do you want a coke" it was either Coke or Pepsi, that's all there was. If you wanted root beer you went to the A&W drive up. Ahhh, the golden days when things were simple.

We have POP machines. We go to the store to buy POP.
Coke and Pepsi are COLAs. Cola is a type of POP. SODA is a tasteless/colourless fizzy liquid that some people mix with their scotch. I drink SODA with a slice of lime. |

I remember when I was 12 I met someone from Texas and they told me about how all soft drinks were referred to as "coke." "What kind of Coke do you want?" God what a stupid concept.
