Any Pin Heads here ?

Ever since I was a young boy, I played the silver ball.......
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...two/Aztec1.jpg
Been scouring the local Craigslist and Flea bay and found a machine for my garage/drive in man cave....So now when I smoke in the garage I also play pinball.....So it looks like more smoking but a touch less attention(for now) to flavor nuances.....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...two/Aztec3.jpg

with apologies to the Who...."that deaf, dumb and cigar smoker sure plays a mean pinball" ............:ss

Re: Any Pin Heads here ?

back in 1994 when I was in the army I was stationed in a small town called Middelburg and the base was really small, just 4 small platoons and used for education only. We were there for a course of a month and in the bar there was a 'creature of the black lagoon'. The highscore was by one of the staff and had been the highscore for years, so the owner of the record had a prize in the shape of a round of beer for the guy who broke his record.

All I can say I was pretty drunk at his expence one night :r

We used to have an Evel Kneivel machine when I was little, if I can ever find one that is in working order I will probably pick it up, used to play that game for hours. :tu

Enjoy it, Charlie!

I am on Mr.Pinball and a couple other sites, just not very often. If you ever see a Satin Doll (Williams, 1972) or Pat Hand (Williams, 1975), for sale in the Midwest, let me know please. :)

Had one of these in the lobby when I went to college - spent so much time playing it one of my professors always stopped by to "remind" me class was starting. Good times...

I'm not sure I qualify as a pinhead, but I worked for a vending company for 9 years. Part of my duties were the placement and repair of pinball machines. There was a lot of playing involved also...in the name of testing, of course.:D

Sweet! A Funhouse pinball machine. I've been lookin' for an Adams Family, Twilight Zone, Star Trek:TNG, or T2 pinball machine for myself. I've remembered spending so much money play them that it's hard not to want one again.. heheh.. and to have my name PERMANENTLY on the high score. :D

Re: Any Pin Heads here ?

I play them wherever one can be found. which is to say, not as much as I'd like. The local vending company has helped by telling me exactly which bars have one or more of their pinball machines, but for this being a metropolis, their aren't that many in circulation.

If my condo was more roomy I'd probably just buy one and be done with it.

Re: Any Pin Heads here ?

They actually take less room than you might think.....:r Check your local craigslist for some pinball action or try the yahoo groups for local pin heads....

My 2 favorite pinball machines are "Rescue 911" and Austin Powers. I love on the Austin Powers machine how there is a mini-me doll and when the pinball goes past it, mini-me does flips :r

Great thread, guys... I haven't seen/heard some of those names in years! It also reminded me of a cool article that I saw in the New York Times last spring. I hope you enjoy it...:tu

Re: Any Pin Heads here ?

Sorry to revive an ancient thread but I just found it and I'M A PROUD PIN HEAD!

I'm lucky in that there's lots of pinball here in Brooklyn. But I have no machines of my own, yet. I don't have the budget to pickup a beautifully shopped pin, but I'd love to find an inexpensive one that needs work and then restore it to like-new myself. I don't know the first thing about it, but it can't be too hard, especially with the older EM machines, right?

Tom, Funhouse is one of my all-time faves! How long have you had yours? Did you ever find a Satin Doll to add to your collection?

icehog3 11-25-2014 01:05 AM

Re: Any Pin Heads here ?

I actually sold the Funhouse machine when I was in financial need, Dave. I often regret it.

Haven't found a working Satin Doll yet, but I am constantly lookng. I have probably been offered 7 or so over the last couple years....and I am certain at least 4 were scam attempts.

Re: Any Pin Heads here ?

I love pinball. I have tons of games on my ipad, Pinball Arcade. All real boards.
I've been haunting Visual Pinball forums so I can build my own video pinball machine, and have a real good grasp on it. I'm gonna try to pick up one of the led tv's for it on Black Friday.

Here's what a virtual table looks like.
I'm not going to go with a "classic" look. It'll be all cherry, thick post legs, and look like furniture. It'll also be a multi-function deal. Surround sound, a couple subs, and it'll serve as a media center for other stuff in the basement.

Wow, that Aztec machine brings back memories!
We used to play that one all the time in a local candy store
when I was in junior high school. Many many many years ago....

If you happen to be a FBer, you can see what Charlie, Cindy and all the gang at the Seattle Pinball Museum have been up to here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Seatt...31237786915560

Charlie still smokes great cigars, misses CA and encourages everyone to visit.

Re: Any Pin Heads here ?

Was at the local state fair a few weeks ago and an exhibitor was there with machines. He runs a local company fixing them up for sell and he also does the routes on the bars (repairs, exchanges, etc.) He had half a dozen machines in his display and all were free play. My son and I had to be pulled away. Brought back SO many memories. He said business was off the chart nowadays. I thought to myself...what a cool freakin' job to have

Re: Any Pin Heads here ?

You know, you just can start in the middle of these threads, or you see Tom has gotten rid of his Fun Machine and is looking for a Satin Doll.......Now I see what this thread is about.

If you are ever in Las Vegas. A few blocks west from where Tropicana crosses the Strip, i.e. by the MGM Grand, is pinball Mecca, the Pinball Hall of Fame. Twenty dollars will last you many hours and you will have a great time. Every machine costs it's original price to play. No cost to get in the door.
