Instant Pot Feed Back
Does anyone have or know someone with an Instant Pot? It's a multi cooker 7in 1 slow cooker, pressure cooker and some other things in one. The reviews online seem pretty good. And I like the pressure cooker idea for quick meals. I've been thinking about picking up a small 6qt one down the line, maybe Black Friday deal.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
Wife wouldn't trade hers for the world. Get the biggest one.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
Don't know much about the Instant Pot electric pressure cooker, but I can say that I find my Fagor stovetop pressure cooker to be indispensable for the things I use it for.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
We have an Instant Pot -- or my wife does :)
She loves it! Everything she's made has come out really good. I would recommend it, and Amazon has them on sale periodically. |
Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
Thank you all! Almost grabbed the 6qt one from Target, thought they were on sale, but no. I don't mind waiting for a sale.

Using camelcamelcamel it shows the lowest it has been was $69. I know a whopping $10 but it helps.

My sister just got it. She's been using it non-stop.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
We have one and it gets a ton of use.
Get the bigger one. |
Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
Mike and CoolPuff, you guys are recommending the 8qt, correct? The only reason I can see getting the 8qt is that you can only fill up to 1/2 or 2/3 when using the pressure cooking option, is that correct?
Is that the reason for the recommendation? I can kind of see why the 8qt would be more handy as cooking something like ox tail soup plus liquid doesn't leave much room in the pot for anything else. |
Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
We got the smaller one, even though I really wanted to get the bigger one. Have not had any issues...

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
Basically just me, the better half and grandfather. I'm trying not to be a fatboy anymore so I'm hoping not to cook in major bulk anymore and just make meals day to day.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
We bought one and although we haven't used it that much, we have several friends that use it all the time. It is well made and very user friendly and can do a lot of things that other slow cookers can't. We got ours from Amazon during the November Black Friday sales for ~ $75.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
For those who are looking for a deal on the 8-qt, Amazon has a great price for the next 15 hours.

The 6at digital is on sale too.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
So far, I'm diggin' the instant pot. Made some hard boiled eggs, shoyu chicken and pulled pork. All came out pretty tasty, pulled pork was just missing that BBQ flavor.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
Wife's had one for about a year and loves it. I tried to use it and couldn't figure out even how to turn it on. Controls aren't exactly intuitive, but there's lots of 'help' online.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
I got the 6qt as a gift, went to exchange it for the 8 yesterday but they were out of stock, also wouldn't give me full value for the exchange so the upgrade fee is more than I was expecting. I took the 6 back with me for now still sealed, based on the notes from this thread I think I'll need to upgrade to the 8

The only reason I stuck with the 8qt was that it was $10 more than the 6qt, on black friday.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
Been having a lot of fun playing with the instant pot. So far I've made: beef stew, zuppa toscana, pasta with sauce and meatballs/sausage, risotto, ribs, and pork carnitas (probably a couple others). I think the ribs I made last night (like this but with only a salt/pepper rub) were the best thing out of it so far, the only I didn't like was the risotto... I don't know if I did it wrong but the texture was all off, felt more like a rice pilaf. Up the rest of this week is white chicken chili and roasting some chicken for a chopped salad. This is too easy it's almost cheating, I recommend to anybody thinking about getting one :tu

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
I picked up the 6qt during the amazon cyber Monday sale, and have used it a lot.
Most recently I tried my hand at making NY style cheesecakes in the pot. The results were remarkable. Dense, moist, melt in your mouth goodness. Made a caramel sauce to dress up the last one I made. :dr Another time saving application is making a dozen hard boiled eggs (I love egg salad) at a time. Crack them in a 7" cake pan, set the pan on a trivet and five minutes later you have a perfect hard boiled egg 'cake'. |
Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
I have an instant pot, and it is dope. I recommend getting the other non-stick bowl for when you want to make more "interesting" items.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
Made some braised lamb shanks yesterday to shred up and put on top of some homemade poutine, browned the shanks on sautee then took them out, put some broths in to mimic what was in the poutine gravy along with a few other aromatics then cooked on high pressure for 45 minutes, let it naturally release for about another 30 minutes (The rest of the meal wasn't ready so I let it do a full natural release to keep it hot), then took them out and the meat fell right off the bone, it was beautiful. I strained the rest of the liquid, put about 1/4C back in the instant pot with the chopped lamb to soak up some more of the juice on keep warm for about 5-10 minutes. Will deifnitely be cooking shanks like this again :dr

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
My wife has been wanting one of these for a few months. I pulled the trigger off Amazon today. So many models and sizes, I was swimming a bit. It's just 3 of us at home, so went with a Instant Pot 6Q. I'm sure whatever it is, she'll be happier than she is now, without one.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
A good friend, and fellow greyhound lover, Ivy Manning has a new cookbook out for the instant pot.

I've been doing simple pulled pork lately.
Pork butt 2 sweet onions 2 tubs of garlic Sweet baby rays sweet and spicy And two bottles of root beer Shredded pork on top of some buttered kings Hawaiian rolls, yum, yum |
Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
Thinking of buying one for my wife.

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
Highly suggest. I don't use mine as much as I used to when I first got it, but with soup season coming along it will likely regain it's permanent place on the counter top :tu

Re: Instant Pot Feed Back
I just received one for Christmas. To say I'm excited is an understatement.
Thank you all for the info and the recipe links. I so want to go food shopping in the morning.:dr |
