HTF Cigars - Which Are Worthy of the Search?
Just because a particular cigar is Hard To Find, that doesn't automatically mean, that it's a great cigar. Which of the HTF Cigars, of which there seems to be many, many, now days , are truly worth the search?

Is this for real? I just went to that cite and it seemed kind of like a joke but almost crazy enough to be real.

Re: HTF Cigars - Which Are Worthy of the Search?
For a good laugh, check out http://www.larstetens.com/about.html on the right read "Lars on Gars". Pretty funny even without the spelling and grammar errors. For example-
"8.The cigars does not follow great people. Great people follow the cigar. It is because of it’s nature, peace. " Either this guy took a couple blows to the head as a kid or uses his cigars as wrappers for something else... |

How dare you insinuate such things about the master of all things.
(I think he actually snacks on lead paint chips) |

I'm trying to remember how many times, "Please don't feed the trolls" was posted in alt.smokers.cigars...

Re: HTF Cigars - Which Are Worthy of the Search?
Sorry Johnny, I instantly derailed your thread.
When I think about HTF stuff that's worth the search (for NCs), I usually think of stronger stuff, since in my opinion some of the milder stuff mellows out too quickly, and a lot of the HTF stuff is either older or could get some age before being smokes. With that in mind, some of the older strong tats such as the T110 and M80 are a good find, as well as the old blacks and reservas. Of course most of my experience is with tats, so I can't speak specifically about other marcas, but I know I have found some older stuff in the past after looking around for a while, and after smoking them I am underwhelmed since they lost their sparkle over the years. Typically when I look for the HTF stuff, even if I'm buying fresh, it's because I'm going to hang onto it for a while and smoke it around friends, or give to friends to smoke. Didn't quite answer your question with a list, but that's my thought behind it |

I'd go out of my way to purchase more Pork Tenderloins, T110's, Barclay Rex, the Boris some other cigars, but probably not at the premium that would be ask.

Re: HTF Cigars - Which Are Worthy of the Search?
Depends on how you classify HTF, I've noticed over the last couple of years that some companies that release short runs of cigars to build up the anticipation and hype, the prices go through the roof on the secondary market and the cigars just aren't that good. DE comes to mind.

Re: HTF Cigars - Which Are Worthy of the Search?
I would love to find some Punch Super Rothschilds (NCs), but they are no longer made and probably went out of production back in the late 1990s. Another one that has disappeared are Cifuentes - yes, they have reincarnated the name and a few cigars, but I'd love to find some of the older stuff again.

I personally don't really bother to chase any HTF NCs anymore. I've had some very good ones, and some very underwhelming ones, but I just don't find the payoff to be worth the effort of the chase and price hike of the secondary market. At least for me. Sure, for certain ones, if I walk into a store and they are there at MSRP, I might indeed pick them up, but I'm not running after any of them. Too many other good cigars out there that are easy enough to get. |

I thought that the DE Liga Unico Ratzilla was really good.

I haven't had a CC in a few years now. I always found them to be very inconsistent. I'd buy box after box and maybe end up with 4 or 5 per box that were worthy of the purchase. I use to love many of the No. 2 (Belicoso) Upman, Monte, Vegas Robaina, etc. But, I finally gave up on them. |
Re: HTF Cigars - Which Are Worthy of the Search?
How is it going John? It has been a long time my friend.
You know, I don't really chase the HTFs anymore, just lost the urge. With that said, I have seen a lot of complaints recently about the Drew Estate (Ligas) and Viaje HTFs. I don't really smoke either, so I don't know myself. That is just what I have seen on other forums. Pete is still putting out ~10-15 HTFs or so a year. I kind of have lost track. In recent memory, the CQ1's for Mission Pipe are in depend. So are the little boris that were made for Corona Cigar a few years back. The earlier monster series releases as well as the Barclay Rex... but most shop specific releases can sell out in hours while others take a couple of days. It all depends on the size and the hype. |
Re: HTF Cigars - Which Are Worthy of the Search?
I don't chase HTFs much. But I did find the Tat Face to be an outstanding cigar. I wish I had bought a few boxes.

Re: HTF Cigars - Which Are Worthy of the Search?
Tatuaje SW Reserva Maduro...worth the search (if you can find them). :dr :dr :dr

Re: HTF Cigars - Which Are Worthy of the Search?
This really is a tough question. For me HTF could mean aged cigars that are either out of production or could mean still produced but small batch cigars which opens up the list quite a bit.
Unless you clarify, I will put my two cents in on current production but limited release cigars and this will be a disputed list to be certain but like I said, my two cents. TAA Tatuaje cigars Viaje Red or Black 50/50 #2 Viaje Satori Viaje Holiday blend (green label) Surrogates Bone Crusher or Skull Breaker Ortega Wild Bunch Island Joe or Dandy McCoy Viaje Collaborative Casa Fernandez Commemorativo (might be no longer available) L'Atelier Special Select Illusione Burn Illusione Singulare Illusione MK Corona FUMARE La Grande Classe That's a good list |

Crowned Heads/My Father Las Calaveras 2014 was an outstanding limited run (72,000 cigars), imo. Worth picking up if you can find 'em.

Personally I loved the E.P. Carillo Edicion Limitada 2012, not sure if that's too old for you.

Re: HTF Cigars - Which Are Worthy of the Search?
Still waiting for the day that I find a couple Fuente Hemingway Rosado's again. Not even sure if those are still made, or if they were a limited release for a time, then done.
