Pxff.com no more?
I just randomly decided to check out puff.com to see how the site looks. It won't even load the site. Did our "old buddy" Jon Caputo decide to shut down his "wonderful" site?
|
Re: Pxff.com no more?
I did a little testing.
The domain is registered until 2015-01-22, so that's not it. The site server doesn't ping. The server seems to be in Florida. I tried probing the server with a port scanner and it doesn't respond. My guess is their server is offline. Wait...another scan tells me their server is up but just filtering everything. That could be from a router, not the actual server. Their server address is owned by Affinity, interesting. They own Good Sam and RV.com and a bunch of stuff like that. Could be a server outage. A little edit, there are a lot of Affinity named businesses. This one seems to be an advertising and revenue stream one. |

Love the Asylum but sometimes still miss the Jungle.

Re: Pxff.com no more?
I unfortunately found that site first. Got tired of some of the attitudes and heavy handed policies and found you guys. Later learned the back story and if it's gone, no great loss. I do know this is like the 3rd or 4th time in the past few months this has happened. It always took like a week to get an explanation once it came back up and it was something like "a problem with server migration" or so lame excuse. Maybe Jon just needs to pay his damn bills, who knows.

Re: Pxff.com no more?
All the videos and blinky stuff and ads probably broke the internet.
|
Re: Pxff.com no more?
So the domain is registered through GoDaddy. The IP is registered to Affinity.
From Affinity's about us page... Quote:
Or, maybe the domain registration expired. http://who.is/domain-history/pvff.com Quote:

Re: Pxff.com no more?
I got this:
Code:
whois puff.com |
Re: Pxff.com no more?
Click the History tab
edit: that must have been the last expiration. BOTL has a thread asking the same question (I'm not a member, I googled it) dated from July. Apparently it's been down for a while. |

Unfortunately, the OLD jungle that I enjoyed died...

Re: Pxff.com no more?
caputo.com is not working either. Interesting IP address.

Re: Pxff.com no more?
What makes it interesting? Just curious. I'm totally ignorant when it comes to this.
|
Re: Pxff.com no more?
The IP address is on the same subnet, maybe even the same computer. Caputo Media is the parent company. If it's also down then the whole company is probably down. There is the phone number, if anyone is so inclined as to call. I sent an email.

I do believe that there may be a thread that details the pre-history of CA in a way that follows the CA rules, but I didn't find it in a quick search. Maybe someone else can find it. I'd hate to see that whole topic get re-opened. |

I won't call, but if I lived in Florida, I would ding-dong-ditch the place.

Re: Pxff.com no more?
They have been down for two days now!
I don't know the backstory about all of the bad blood with seemingly many, but there were some decent folks for the past year that I was on there. Some annoying ones too. This is the second outage in as many months. Found CA while looking for someplace to continue my education and get my "fix"! |
Re: Pxff.com no more?
Nobody here has an issue with the folks there, we have several dual-site guys. More the owner. We used to work for him. ;)

I think the one thing I miss from the jungle was the lowland gorilla. I have a divot fixer with the gorilla on it - cute.

I was never a member of that "other" forum. At least not a contributing member. I may have registered there at one point, but I forget. I was one of the lucky ones who was directed to cigarasylum first. :D

Re: Pxff.com no more?
I believe I read somewhere that GoDaddy was experiencing some DNS problems. Sorry, no backup link so take this with a grain of salt.

Re: Pxff.com no more?
I miss club stogie.. I quit smoking cigars right before the changes made at clubstogie and now just got back into cigars again. The place is not the same at all, such a shame, thats how I found out about this forum.

sorry if this is old news, but just got an email from that site. Apparently he has past away and wife is trying to work through stuff and has someone to help get things moving again.

I got that email as well, but haven't been able to find any details of what happened to him. Maybe my Google-fu is weak.

Re: Pxff.com no more?
This is the email for your review:
To our loyal Puff.com members, [FONT=Helvetica]I would like to sincerely apologize for Puff being down and unstable for as long as it was. We understand how frustrating and upsetting it has been for you. Unfortunately as some of you may or may not know, my husband, Jon Caputo, who I owned Puff with, passed away a while ago. I really tried my best to keep up with the site and deal with the loss of my husband and the father of my children but it has really proven too much for me and I need to focus my attention elsewhere. I was recently contacted by a business associate of mine who knew what I was going through and he connected me with a few friends of his who offered to work with me to stabilize Puff as well give the members everything that they want and need including servers that are up and online 24 hours a day 7 days a week, a new mobile app that so many of you have been looking for as well as solid contact people should anyone ever need anything. We realize that alternatives are out there and we will do our best to make sure that Puff becomes the home that you grew to love. We will need some help and input from you because it is very important to us that you are happy. We are in the process of upgrading to newer, faster servers and we hope this will not only fix stability issues but also improve the experience of the site. In addition, we will be removing some of the advertising from the site to further speed it up and improve your overall experience. We realize that any downtime after such a long period of the site being down is unwelcome but we believe that it will be for the better in the long run. Members of the new support team will be available to answer questions in the following thread: http://www.puff.com/forums/vb/forum-...g-forward.html Please understand your needs have always been important and will continue to be so. I, in no way ever intended any harm to the site or it’s reputation. I was just dealing with a number of personal issues and I ask for your patience and understanding in this very difficult time. Your support has always been a great source of motivation for me and it is needed now more than ever. Again, thank you for your patience. Sincerely, Shari http://www.Puff.com/ Co-Founder[/FONT] |
