NHL '14 - '15 Season Thread

Training camps start soon, so let's get the party started.

Unfortunately, a bit of bad news to start. Carol Vadnais, 6-time All Star who played for the Bruins, Canadiens, Rangers, Golden Seals and Devils, died on Sunday at age 68.

He won Stanley Cups with both the Habs and Bruins, but what I remember him best for was when he played for the Golden Seals, and was the only NHL team I remember whose players wore white skates.

The best thing about the football season getting ready to start is it means hockey's right around the corner.

Bob Suter, a member of the "Miracle On Ice" team that won the Olympic gold medal in 1980 and the father of Minnesota Wild star Ryan Suter, died Tuesday at the age of 57.

Suter died suddenly in his hometown of Madison, Wisconsin, and is the first player from the famed 1980 Olympic men's hockey team that upset the Soviet Union and beat Finland for the gold medal to pass away.

Also Ryan's dad, no?
Sad to hear. Darn that's young!

Yup, Ryan's Dad, and former Blackhawks player Gary Suter's brother, Neil.

So - sat down with my season ticket partner to do the game draw for the upcoming season at MTS Centre. Caught some good games including Pittsburgh, Chicago, Rangers and the home opener against Nashville. Can't wait!

Hopefully we'll be doing a play-off draw come April! (Would make a pleasant change.)

I'm undecided on this season..you lose a 30 goal scorer not replaced.

They trade a tough as nails top four defense man that really did not have to be moved for cap space, and got three draft picks.

Draft pick are a crap shoot at best..unless you get in the top five or so.

This team did not get better just older and slower.

I play daily fantasy sports, almost every day.
I might ask you guys for advice on players as I really am unfamiliar with the NHL or players that are good or bad.
But I do plan on learning the sport and watching games this year!

Wings play the Bruins tonight for the season opened in Detroit. I hope the fact our veterans are healthy and our youngsters have some experience will bode well for this season.

Hawks open up against a Dallas team that looks like they might make some noise this season. Seguin, Benn and Spezza is one scary line, and Kari is a great goalie when he stays healthy. Might end up being Hawks biggest challenge in the division.

Yeah, and I have Varlomov in one of my fantasy leagues. Yer killin' me, Smalls.

Corey Crawford saved 18 other guys, and the Hawks get a 3-2 SO win to start the campaign. :)

I've been telling all my hockey buds that the Stars have unreal speed and are going to contend this year if Lehtonen stays healthy...but their puck pursuit is even better than I thought it would be. They are going to do some damage this season.

That was a great start to the season! I think the truth will be told for the Wild in how they play in CO. Tough game for the Avs tonight. EJ Id be willing to bet our clubs see each other in the playoffs again.

6-2 Jets! Nice start.....

Still look shy of a decent goalie in spite of the win.

Wings played well and won their opener over the Bruins 2-1. It was a fun game to watch. Wings carried the play but ended up in a 1-0 hole early on. They didn't flinch, kept up the pressure and it paid off. Their D was pinching often and the forwards were doing a great job of covering and back checking. I was impressed.

Yeah, just when I get Valarmov and McKinnon in my fantasy leagues. :td

E.J., the experts are predicting that the Avs will not repeat the success of last season. Of course, last year they predicted the Avs would miss the playoffs, and they won the division, so what to they know?

(Except for the 7 of 13 ESPN guys who picked the Hawks to win the Cup in 2015...they're pretty smart). ;)

So far not looking to good for the B's.

Defense is shaky and the offense is non-existence.

Still early let's see how the offense look when Krejci gets back and get a few games under their belt then and see how the offense pans out.

The Defense is suspect right now
Why would you sign Bartkowsky and dump Boychuk.?

Still early in the season
1st week of December is when we can start calling for the firings and dumping of the useless players if they don't start showing some life.

That was the talk on NHL radio yesterday, Mike, the Sharks are expected to do well in the regular season, but will ultimately be judged on their post season. They also opined that Stalock will be the number 1 goalie by that time.

29.99 for team mirrors pickup in store to not pay shipping. Price adjusts once you select a team. Tempted to buy one so I can smash it after the first round of the playoffs.

...then they turn around and give a textbook display of how NOT to play with a two goal lead last night. That was horrible.

I'm giving the B's another 10 games before the Bruins make some moves.
There are only four or five guys on this team that are untouchable.
Peter Chiarelli should have been fired after the Seguin trade.
