What was your first?
Pretty simple. What was your first cigar?
My first was an H. Upmann toro in tube. |
Re: What was your first?
Grenadier robusto (machine made) in the mid '80s.
|
Re: What was your first?
Backwoods from a pouch.
|
Re: What was your first?
Ashton white lable
|
Re: What was your first?
something really horrible that caused me not to try one again for years.
Moment of conversion was a Padron (forget which one) many years later |
Re: What was your first?
Fuente Opus X I bought from Casa Fuente in Vegas while on mid-tour leave from Iraq.
|
Re: What was your first?
First stick ever - Swisher Sweet
Moment of conversion stick (as Neil so elegantly put it :D) - Davidoff No. 2 Tubo |

Re: What was your first?
Partagas Black Label... may not have been my first but it was the first that made me go hm... this is going to get expensive!
|
Re: What was your first?
Philly or is it Phillie Blunt. It coincided with my first "jungle juice" which coincided with the first couple of times l threw up out of moving car.
Conversion stick--can't remember but I was fond of Royal Jamacians and Sosa torpedos. I had a cuban H Upmann tubo early in my storied cigar career that was pretty much wasted on my inexperienced palate. |
Re: What was your first?
Fairly it certain it was a Swisher Sweet I picked up for Gar Night at my dorm in early 80's. Hard to believe, but we smoked in the lounge on every other floor back then. Mornings after Gar-Nights were some of the worst.

Re: What was your first?
I wouldn't swear to this, but I think it was a Macanudo of some kind.
|
Re: What was your first?
Swisher Sweet.
First "real" cigar was a Camacho IIRC. |
Re: What was your first?
The first several cigars I had were unbanded, so I don't know what they were. The first one I bought was a Macanudo Portofino.
|
Re: What was your first?
I'm pretty sure it was a Romeo Y Julieta 1875, but it could have also been a Macanudo Hyde Park
|
Re: What was your first?
First cigar would be a black and mild plastic tip, wine flavor. I threw up shortly thereafter, but I suspect it had something to do with the Popov vodka I was drinking after prom and not the cigar....I haven't drank vodka since and still get nauseous when I smell black and milds...
First actual cigar would be a Nica Libre toro. Smoked lots of Nica Libres back in the day! Now, I can't get near them. |
Re: What was your first?
I cant remember what I smoked yesterday! :bh
Just out of high school we used to smoke Black and Mild's while playing poker. |
Re: What was your first?
A Hemingway Classic. 4 years later I still blame(read: thank) George for getting me started on this wild ride. He even got me to appreciate Padrons with my third ever cigar the bastid :r
|
Re: What was your first?
First cigar ever- Black n Mild.
Gateway cigar - Cusano 18 fist slippery slope cigar - Cohiba Siglo X1 |
Re: What was your first?
First cigar- Backwwods in the pouch.
First real cigar was a non-Cuban Romeo y Julieta. |
Re: What was your first?
First ever was a backwoods from my brother. Cool, we looked like green Clint Eastwoods. First premium was an acid kuba kuba. Not bad. First "real" cigar was a HDM dark Sumatra. Now we're talking. First cc was a party short that gophernut laid on me. That was almost a religious experience.

Re: What was your first?
The first cigar I smoked was some service station pick up. The first cigar I smoked that left any impression was a Macanudo I had with a friend while in college. I think I had a few of those before stopping for awhile.
|
Re: What was your first?
Hmmm...I think it was a swisher sweet wood tip from a gas station back in the mid 90s.
|
Re: What was your first?
Hav-a-tampa with birchwood tip. My dad smoked them, so that meant I did, too. First real cigar would have been something from a Thompson's sampler, if that's what you call a real cigar.
|
Re: What was your first?
Partagas black label at Barona while playing Craps
|
Re: What was your first?
The first "real" cigar that hot me hooked was a Macanudo.
|
Re: What was your first?
First cigar was when I was about 8 years old with my friends-Macanudos (Churchill sized) that we stole from my friends Dad's box, disgusting cigars!
17 years later cigar that got me going was Tat Black Lanceros! |

Re: What was your first?
First ever "cigar" was a King Edwards on a hiking excursion. Followed shortly thereafter by a AF Curly Head Deluxe. Followed shortly thereafter by hundreds and hundreds of others.
Years later, still love a good cigar, and now have moved primarily to pipes. However, cigars were my first love, and helped get me through some tough times. My humidor will always be stocked for when the mood strikes. |
Re: What was your first?
Ha! First one was when I was 11 years old and my grandfather caught me and my 13 year old cousin smoking a cigarette. He took us out behind the barn and told us "If you're going to smoke, you're going to smoke like a man!" He handed us each a Philly Blunt (the kind that he smoked). We both turned green and puked!
Years later my first adult smoke was a Macanudo Hyde Park when I was about 23 years old with some coworkers. I was hooked, and have smoked cigars ever since (for the past 26 years). |
Re: What was your first?
Swisher Sweet Tipped Cigar around 1975. I was 12 and got it out of my brother's car. Didn't get sick, didn't bother me.

Punch - it came in a sampler - from Honduras. Liked it, didn't love it.
|
Re: What was your first?
For me, I'm pretty sure it was a swisher sweet in high school.
An Oliva Serie O and a Taboo Twist is what really whetted my appetite. |
Re: What was your first?
" its a boy "
derrek |
Re: What was your first?
King Arthur Perfecto as a 15 y/o.
moving forward a few years,a girl I was dating managed to get some CCs for me from a trip. Those opened up my interest. |
Re: What was your first?
Temple Hall Estates at a wedding that had a cigar box for guests. That got me hooked and I am much the poorer in one sense and much the richer in another!
|
Re: What was your first?
Kuba Kuba...

Re: What was your first?
It happened at the beach.
Oddly enough, I smoked my first cigar at the beach as well. It was a Tiparillo with a wooden tip. Around 1970. :O |
Re: What was your first?
Swisher perfecto I swiped from the step-dad's box at 12 or 13.
Swisher tips after giving up cigarettes in '86. First B&M purchase was a Macanudo. Come to Jesus moment with a Parti short shortly after finding this place. |
Re: What was your first?
Punch Robusto (NC)
New Years Eve All downhill from there… :) |
Re: What was your first?
Swisher Sweet Wood Tip.
|
Re: What was your first?
First cigar - El Producto Presidente. It was from Ray Nitschke's box of cigars in his golf bag.
First cigar to convert me to smoking decent cigars? 1980, Arturo Fuente Rothschild. |
Re: What was your first?
The first cigar I smoked many years ago when you could smoke in a public area was a Macanudo Portofino Tubo. I was staying at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Chicago for a few days with my (then) boss for a trade show. We ended a long day with a nice dinner and a stop the hotel bar that also sold cigars for an after dinner cocktail where he introduced me to my first cigar paired with some Grand Mariner. The rest as they say is history.

Re: What was your first?
1997 - 1st was a Tinderbox label cigar at a bachelor party two weeks before I smoked my first "real" cigar. Received an Ashton Magnum for being the best man in sad wedding....hooked forever.
