10 - 12 year old Scotch

Name your preferred 10 - 12yo scotch, single malt or blended.
Glenmorangie Original is one my preferred. Recently gifted a Glenfiddich 12 and can't wait to enjoy with a fine stick.

For some reason I keep going back to Macallan 12 Single Malt. Great for the price. As far as blended I like Chivas 18 yr

Re: 10 - 12 year old Scotch

There are other more expensive 12 yr olds, but Chivas 12 year is my everyday. Prices are very reasonable - I just paid $19.70/750 ml (out the door, no tax, AAFES price). That was the case price so I'm stocked up for awhile. It's the scotch I cut my teeth on and was my old man's whiskey. 18 yr old is better, but I couldn't resist the $19.70 price tag.

I like to try older ones when i get the money to, but my favorite so far is Aberlour 12 year.

Well, I dig the Islay's so if I have to choose a 10-12 yr. easily available scotch...

1. Laphroaig 10
2. Ardbeg 10
3. Caol Ila 12

But for a step up I go to Lagavulin 16 or Ardbeg Uigeadail. Both yummy.

For a slight change of pace, I reach for Highland Park 12 or 15. Considered an "Islands" scotch and fantastic.

For a bigger change and moving to a Speyside, I go with Aberlour 12 or 16 or Balvenie 12 or 17 Double wood.

And for those who prefer the smoke from their cigar rather than from their libation, might I suggest Glengoyne.

I am not that into Scotch, but these ^ choices are good ones.

Re: 10 - 12 year old Scotch

So if we are talking only 10-12 year old and no No Age Statement whiskys I'd go with:

Ardbeg 10
BenRiach 10 Curiositas, $50
Bruichladdich 10
Lagavulin 12
Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength (skip the regular 10 year)
Springbank 10
Sprinbank 12 Cask Strength

For blends I've been liking Black Bottle 10 yr (not the NAS bottle). It has been discontinued for some time but can still be found

I'd settle for this one if I had to pick one 10-12yr bottling.

I would have picked Bruichladdich 10 but the coming price hikes on this means it will no longer be an option.

I think all this talk of Balvinie double wood is highly over rated, there is no such thing...

After all we don't want to start a rush on this below average Scotch..

I mean it isn't that good now...

;s

Ok I lied this stuff is great, my wife and I finished off a whole bottle in a week, I know we are weak, but it looked so, so nice just sitting there in our liqueur cabinet, couldn't believe we finished off a bottle in less then seven days. Good news though, we have one more left! Happy spirits all! FWIW, I'm having a Glenfiddich 12 year old tonight.:tu

I've heard really good things about Monkey Shoulder, I haven't run across a bottle yet, but if I happen on to one, I'll make sure to pick it up!

Lots of good answers, and while I agree with the Ardbegs, Taliskers, etc. I find it stunning that there's yet to be a mention of Highland Park 12.

Uncorked the gifted Christmas bottle of 12 yr Glenfiddich this evening. Accompanied with a Camacho Coyolar Rothchilds puro cigar.
Excellent, stout cigar and very smooth, easy neat Scotch. This scotch was a pleasant surprise-very smooth with moderate, warm finish. The scotch did not overpower the cigar, but was a welcome complement. I recommend this scotch highly. :tu

If you like that one give Macallan 12 a go. I bet you will like it a lot

Goody's down the road typically has either Glenmorangie or Glenfiddich regularly on sale for $30 with two glasses, so that usually fits the bill, but I'll sample anything they have in that area that's marked down.....pops got me a bottle of the 12 year Chivas for Christmas, it's decent, so that's what I have for now....any good 12 year at or below $30 hits the mark for me...been lucky enough to sample some amazing 18 year courtesy of my buddies from time to time and they are impeccable.

Well, for me anyway, it would be sometimes. Laphroaig Cask Strength is an example of where their standard 10 yr is better than their CS. :2

Preferred would definitely be the Balvenie 12 Double Wood.
In a pinch Glenmorangie 10.

+1 with the only exception being I replace Laphroaig with Taliskers.

I am a big fan of the Tomatin 12. Nice flavors and probably one of the lowest price single malts available.

18 year highland at Costco in Ft Wayne for $38.00

Worth $38 - I wouldn't pay more. Maybe I'll change my mind after the first bottle from the case I bought.
