Re: Your Favorite Reliable Wineador to date?
Before I purchased an Aristocrat five years ago, I had a Haier set up. After I got the Aristocrat, the Haier was repurposed to holding wine. Imagine that. :D The Haier is probably around seven years old now and still going strong.

Re: Your Favorite Reliable Wineador to date?
If you go the wineador route, I'd just add beads and let her go.
I modified mine with a temperature control unit, and then used active humidification. It was a complete pain. The thing cycled constantly, humidity jumped all over the place, and I had condensate problems all the time. In retrospect I should have just gone with beads. There's a lot to be said for the KISS method. Quote:

Re: Your Favorite Reliable Wineador to date?
vinotemp, unplugged with a boat load of beads spread throughout. have had it going for about 5 years, still works like the day i took it's dented ass out of the target box :tu

I'm assuming the unit is off with this method ? Thanks |
Re: Your Favorite Reliable Wineador to date?
yup, vino off, I keep my apartment in the upper 60's year round so I never have any issues with interior temp, but I do keep a digital thermo in there and keep a rough eye on it. I have used it for temp control before but I would get minor rh swings. right now my rh never goes more than +/-1 (according to the two hygros I have in there on the top and bottom shelves). Also had some custom shelves made that focus on airflow so that may help with the consistency. Used to have a couple fans rolling in intervals but I haven't noticed any negative effects since I stopped keeping up with battery changes.

I'm experimenting with a timer with the cooling going on and off every 15 min and I get a constant 67 |
Re: Your Favorite Reliable Wineador to date?
im no expert, but if you're battling exterior temps of 100* I would guess you would need the cooling widget going 24/7. I think the vino cooler thingy turns off once it hits the target and turns back on once you deviate a certain amount (presumably 1* but who knows). Don't know if that's how it works with all of em

SO it's your favorite reliable to date? Did you vote yet?

You might want to reconsider -- your garage with 100 degree temps is probably not ideal storage for cigars. You would need a 24/7 cooling system and then you need to accommodate the swings in RH that will occur when the cooling unit is running. |
Re: Your Favorite Reliable Wineador to date?
Edgestar 28 is my first and only wineador. I got a S&D from compactappliance for $99 shipped. The door frame arrived broken, and instead of sending me a replacement door, they gave me a full refund. The glass was in good condition, as was the seal. So I gave the pieces to my cabinet installer, and had him make a new door frame out of cherry:

Re: Your Favorite Reliable Wineador to date?
I have an Edgestar, it works as a humidor and that's all that matters.
Really any brand would work in my opinion, they can all hold humidity if you plug the drain. |

Re: Your Favorite Reliable Wineador to date?
SD here. Only had it for 6 mos, but has been rock solid and room for over 300 sticks. Price was very good. I'd buy another in a heartbeat. Keep wineador in spare room with ambient temp of 80, set on 67. Stays right at 67 with 65% humidity.http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/a...1/image-14.jpg

Re: Your Favorite Reliable Wineador to date?
I've never owned a Wineador, so I voted for Kaloric.

Re: Your Favorite Reliable Wineador to date?
During a move years ago, I was about to throw away a 34 bottle Avanti fridge and a friend suggested storing my cigar boxes in there. It had never occurred me before, but turned out to be the most practical and elegant solution to consolidating everything into one display case. I've since become a big fan of wineadors and am just now starting to learn about the ideas for a coolerador!

I'd like to change my vote to cellar pro.
