How to cut a Drew Estate Java Mint.
1 Attachment(s)
Well as the title says, I just picked up a Drew Estate Java Mint from my local cigar shop and it is a square shaped cigar obviously. I have a guillotine cutter and cigar scissors but what is the proper way to cut a square cigar? Will my guillotine or scissors just crush cut the end and ruin it?

Re: How to cut a Drew Estate Java Mint.
As long as the guillotine is sharp, it should be just fine.

Re: How to cut a Drew Estate Java Mint.
You can cut (or punch) it the same as any other cigar.

Best cut will come from a machete or cane knife, with luck you will cut in half! ;s
Like most box pressed cigars you can either use a guillotine or punch. :tu |

Yeah, I don't know about that haha the scissors worked pretty well actually. My cutter wasn't big enough to cut the ring of the cigar. It was pretty tasty, almost like a menthol cigar with hints of chocolate. Burn was pretty good too.

Re: How to cut a Drew Estate Java Mint.
I've used a guillotine, punch, and V cut on box pressed sticks. All work fine as long as they're sharp. But sharpness is very important with any smoke regardless of shape!
My favorite cut is a V on anything that it will work on. I recently discovered the V cut and love it! In fact im smoking a box pressed Murcielago that i used a v cut on right now. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-t...B033BA487E.JPG I use a Xikar VX Metal V-Cut and it works great!http://www.xikar.com/products/cutters/vx-v-cut/# |
Re: How to cut a Drew Estate Java Mint.
How do you achieve a "V" cut? Is there a certain type of cutter? How is it superior?
|
Re: How to cut a Drew Estate Java Mint.
I tend to use our V-Cutter at work for anything box pressed, and anything else I go with my trusty Xikar guillotine. Really doesn't make a difference smoking wise, I just like the feel of a V on a box pressed stick.

Ahh, gotcha. I'm assuming they are used mostly with box pressed? Or can you use with a normal cigar as well?

I use an antique v-cutter every now and then but I seem to always revert back to my Palio. I personally would use The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch to light that Java :r
Enjoy. |

Since it's a Drew Estate I would suggest cutting it lengthwise.....

I didn't know there was so much dislike for them across the board (In general, not just here). Not everyone will like the same brands though, so I shouldn't be that surprised.

Oh no, before I ever tried any Liga's before, I wasn't a fan of DE at all.

OP, do you like any of the other DE line, like the Java's, or Acids? |

I meant the other Java, I can't remember the name, I think it's the regular one (The Brown band). He said it tasted like Menthol, wasn't sure if he was into the other taste as well ;)

Re: How to cut a Drew Estate Java Mint.
I was kinda curious to try a Java Mint.. But not enough to get a fiver.
I enjoy the regular java from time to time in the AM with some coffee.. A fiver of those will last me about a year. And to answer the thread.. I use a punch on those.. Like the square head intact. |
Re: How to cut a Drew Estate Java Mint.
I've had a majority of the drew estate line, acid's, java's, tabaks - i think their good for the price. At the same time I like the heartier cigars with more body and spice and earthy tones ya know? No one person has the same taste pallete in the world so it really depends on what each individual likes. A cigar could be really sweet to one person and bitter to another.
And then there is the Liga's that are nicer cigars from Drew Estate - and I want to try them, the dirty rat's and such but I cannot find them anywhere and I know they always sell out fast. IF ANYONE WANTS TO SELL ME (OR GIVE) ME ONE I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY! haha - (those of you with 10 boxes of liga's sitting in your humidor) |

The LP9 & T52 are for the most part readily available if you look around

Smoke what you like, like what you smoke. Truer words have never been spoken.

I used a punch on my Java and it worked perfect. Loved that cigar.
Been months since I've had one. Wanted to light one up a few days ago but just didn't get around to it. |

Valid point Tom. My confusion was more of the guys who don't like the GT500. All boils down to what you like and don't like. Doesn't matter who the manufacturer is.

Re: How to cut a Drew Estate Java Mint.
As I posted in my own thread, this DE Herrera Estili is amazing.
