Fully lined with Spanish cedar and drawers and shelf too. |
Re: My new humidor cabinet
Did you make that thing yourself? That looks pretty nice!
|
Re: My new humidor cabinet
With such a nice cabinet, you may want to get something a bit more reliable than kitty litter to regulate the humidity in it. :2

Very nice Brain :tu

Re: My new humidor cabinet
Nice job. I have a bunch of walnut, cherry, maple, padauk, purple heart, and spanish cedar, etc. layin' around. I thought about building one myself so I'd have some extra room. Did you use repurposed glass or did you purchase new?
|
Re: My new humidor cabinet
Kitty litter......really? Please tell us you're kidding.
|
Re: My new humidor cabinet
Looks like a winner to me ! Nice Job
May I suggest - replace your first run of KL media in about three weeks. Or at least in a few weeks pull the tray and give it a sniff. It will absorb any vapors off the fresh build like finish coatings or glues. You actually want it to do that anyway. I wouldn't throw $100 worth of beads in there for at least 30 days. And I use HCM |

Re: My new humidor cabinet
Justin bought new glass. Filling as we speak. And for kl, I paid 4.99 for 4 pounds. How much is 4 pounds of beads? That's a lot of cigars. Opinions about both are warranted but I chose kl.

For me, it is not about opinions but about science. That and if KL were just as effective, museums would be using it to preserve their valuable artifacts - not beads. Considering the money I have invested in my cigars, beads are the only choice for me. |
Re: My new humidor cabinet
sweet looking humi.
I second what peter says. |
Re: My new humidor cabinet
Straight from hcm's site.
In order to get the same humidity buffering benefit from kitty litter as from HCM beads, a person would need to use 9 to 14 pounds of kitty litter as compared to one pound of HCM beads. At $50 for a pound of HCM beads and $28 for 14 pounds of kitty litter, it appears at first to be a "value". The problem is, in order for the Kitty litter to work as well as one pound of HCM beads, it needs to be arranged so as to provide 910 square inches of surface area as opposed to 65 square inches of surface area for HCM beads. Are you willing to spare that kind of space in your humidor? Even at that rate, the kitty litter is far slower reactively than are HCM beads. They can handle the buffering and provide the volume needed, but they take much longer to recover the RH of the conditioned space. |
Re: My new humidor cabinet
I'm glad I've received such a "warm" welcome.( please notice sarcasm). I hope y'all don't tell everyone how crappy their cigars they are smoking are. I understand everyone here is in love with beads, fine ! I was trying to share my humidor and be a part of the community. Sorry

Re: My new humidor cabinet
Nobody is trying to show you off Brian we all have different views on how we store our cigars, they are just giving you sound advice on what most of us have observed over time. I myself heaved used kL for almost a year but I'm soon converting to beads as well. I unlike you only have a vino not a beautiful tower cab like you. The reason I'm converting is because of the fluctuation that went on over last summer on a 16 bottle avanti. Now that I have a 28 and own more cigars I want to make sure my investment is protected and I gladly will get me some beads for that. Anyways welcome to the site and enjoy that gorgeous piece you got there

Feelings are not hurt. Just know not to mention kitty litter here.

Re: My new humidor cabinet
Brian, did you line it in Spanish cedar? The drawers look to be cedar. I'm seriously thinking about tackling one of these down the road.

Re: My new humidor cabinet
Just threw that boveda pack in the other day. The whole thing is lined with 1 inch sc. Got rough cut and milled it down. I'm steadily building up stock

Re: My new humidor cabinet
No one is telling you anything is crappy. They are just giving you their opinions. No one is trying to offend.

Re: My new humidor cabinet
All the kl debate aside... Very nice humi!

Re: My new humidor cabinet
I don't want to stir anything up but I would like to add this:
People are offering their opinions based on their experiences; they are not attacking you or your beliefs. You can choose whether or not to take any of the offered advice. You can ignore the advice now and change your mind later and take it. Or not. It's all up to you. Regardless of your choice, people will continue to offer their opinions and you can offer yours. I cannot see anywhere in this thread where anyone is offering offense. If you are offended please try to keep in mind that (IMHO) no one intended to offend. There are a lot of people who like KL and there are a lot of people who like other humidification devices. This is the real world and humifiication it is kind of like discussing religion and politics. Just my :2 P.S. You have a great looking humidor and I hope you get many years of enjoyment from it. |
Re: My new humidor cabinet
Gorgeous box dude and if people don't like your choice of humidification tell them they aren't allowed to store their sticks in your box :tu
ok that sounded way too sexual :r |
