So Fla Help ASAP

Ok the wife is fed up with the BS going on in our city with budget cuts and layoffs and wants out of town for the weekend next weekend. We decided lets go to So Fla! Where is a good beach area to stay in, not really into too much partying and drinking so a family area is fine too. I know we have a bunch of BOTL in that area so help me out fellas. Thanks

When you say South Florida, the choices are endless.
There is Dade County, Miami, South Beach, etc.
Broward, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Olas, Hollywood, etc.
Palm Beach, Boca Raton, West Palm, City Place, etc.

Living in Boca Raton, for a family getaway, quiet, yet in the middle of it all, I personally always go to the Embassy Suites in Deerfielfield Beach.
Great resort, beach across a short street, and in the middle of it all just a short ride away, yet quiet, secluded.
Close to Ft. lauderdale airport.
Great Cuban restaurant nearby (Little Havana) a short drive from anything.
We have been there with the likes of Don Mattingly, Phil Rizzuto and Don King.
If good enough for them, good enough for me and at very reasonable price.
Great restaurant on the beach down the street (JB's).
Plus, let me know and will gladly join you for a smoke.
You are welcome to stop by my place, known for some crazy herfs.

Lots of nice places in Palm Beach, it's off season so prices should be pretty reasonable at most places.

Two different worlds.
Not even on same planet.

I enjoy Savanah, staying at Hyatt but that river is not Ft. lauderdale.
Those pralines are not Cuban food.
Bikinis are not in Savanah as they are in South Florida.
Sun not the same.
In Savanah, once you go to Paula Dean's and see her food is not as good as you see on tv, what then? I was so, so disappointed the two times I went to eat there.
Guarantee you choices in South Florida will never cease.
If you go to Savanah, tell Paula I want my money back.:D

Ok if we stay in Ft Lauderdale but not right on the beach, how easy is it to get access to the beach? Lots of parking or only a little?

Deerfield Beach.
Hotel has a very short skip street behind it and there is the beach.
If you want to mingle, go down a bit walking and you will be where the locals go, by the peer.

There's lots of parking at public beaches, I know the area Carlos is talking about well. There's a big public beach parking lot next to JBs restaurant.

any experience with the hotel i posted a few posts up?

I did indeed find that one but since we are going to stay 2 nights on a whim it'll be too much once you thrown in the gas and food and such.

Never been to the hotels in the area, but it looks pretty nice, does it have good reviews? I don't see reviews on the mobile site

You would go to GA when I'm out of state...Savannah is Beauuuuuttttiiiiffffuuullll as I'm sure you know, but I would personally pick the beach over it.

Hey guys how is the Hollywood, FL area? South of Ft Lauderdale, north or North Miami Beach. Looking at the Crowne Plaza there. That area safe?

Can't go wrong with any beach along the three counties. All have their positives.
As far as general area, all have a semi tough area between 95 and the water but once on the barrier/beach side, all is good.
Hollywood Beach is small but neat.
Great Argentinian steakhouse if still there, right on the water.

Ok guys, the hotel I was looking at in Hollywood sold out of avail rooms at the rate I was going for.

Just booked our room in Ft. Lauderdale at the Bahia Mar A Doubletree by Hilton.
801 Seabreeze Blvd.
Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33316

I'll talk with the wife and discuss meet up times.
Can anyone recommend a Cuban restaurant in that area or another area? My wife LOVES Cuban food. Thanks

Carlos mentioned Little Havana cuban restaurant in his first post, it's in Deerfield Beach. If Carlos recommends it, that's the place to go for great Cuban food.

Trust me, the very best in the area.
Only place in the area I would say can take on my wife or my mom with Cuban cooking.

They do but the absolute best is something most gringos would never know of.
Try the flan de queso with mermelada de gyayaba.
While a mouthful to say, what a delight to eat.
I recommend their Little Havana steak with chimichurri.
Great Mojito's and if into beer, go for a very cold Presidente.
Enjoy!

BTW, awesome musician there after five every Friday, Saturday and Sunday playing Cuban and Latin music as a one man band.

You see? That is why a local tour guide is a must! :D

They don't have it on the menu. They put it on their small, backlit board that you see when you first walk in. It is always on there and if not, just ask.
It is basically a flan that includes cheesNdebele the mix and is topped with guava marmalade.
I swear I drool just thinking about it but then again, I am a Guava lover.
