Car guys?

I know your out there :). Looking forward to some track time this summer but loving driving around enjoying a good smoke too!

Re: Car guys?

My first PDX/CT race is the Saturday. Will be looking foward to this season, though will probably not do much touring this summer, we will be spending some track time.

Very nice! What track? I hear you on limited track time. I have a 2month old so my fe time is limited. I do hope for at least one or two days though which I would be very happy with!

Car guy, just don't do racing of any kind. I'm just a cruiser. Looking forward to a few good cruise nights.
Thinking about heading down to Mustang Unlimited in CT on April 29th for their anual car show this year.

I hope to do some car club driving this summer, but free time and working 1000+ miles from home does not help.

Apexkingjusto 04-18-2012 06:45 PM

Re: Car guys?

Oh man that sounds ruff! 1000 miles away from home is not fun on a regular basis.

Maybe we can all get together for a smoke and watch some good car racin at limerock seeing that you guys are in MA.

I race at Reno\Fernely Int. Raceway. Its a great course, but has had some finiancial issues in the past few years. The SCCA, and other clubs have helped some.

Oh and I know what you mean about limited track days, I have a 15 month old, that's why we wont be doing much if any tours this year. We have generally attended several PCA events, but there hard with a 15 mo. old!

I've been 1/4 mile racing Vettes for years in the past at Englishtown and Eastern Suffolk LI... Just traded in my 08 Z06 for a P 911 Turbo. Did some computer work on it and she's close to 600 Horses. Next up...The intercoolers. Love the all wheel drive and the fact that things just don't break so easy on this car.

Wow, good for you! That is some machine. :banger. I had an '05 Turbo S with my cousin we exported to Switzerland for sale. I went for one brief drive in it. They are a wicked cars!

Do you park in front of bath houses often, lol

I recently got a new car. I was torn between a GranSport, 997, or XK recently and picked an XK Coupe.

In the end, I was uneasy about Maserati maitainance and being stuck with the dealer for everything. My old Maser I could fix or have fixed easily by any good Italian car place; not so with the post-Ferrari stuff. On top of that, the amount of failures and nickel and dime stuff was just too much to warrant as a daily driver. Even though the engine is Ferrari developed, it sure does not sound very exciting stock. There were few attributes outside of looks or nameplate to win me over.

I'll wait for the Alfa 4C if I go Italian again.

I wonder how it really compares to Lotus Elise. Elise is a little too small for me to be a daily driver. Almost zero storage too. I love the Alfa Brera, that's one hot looking car for a regular price. Really love the Renault Clio Turbo, that thing is straight out dope!

Neg... Only the nicer days and never in the snow. Sorry to disappoint. ;)

Mosesbotbol: Can't say there's a better sounding car out there than the Maserati. It really sings with the likes of Ferrari and Lambo. My P car sounds like a box of marbles, but it goes like a raped ape. :D

I am all signed up for the SRT Track experience at Englishtown Raceway.
I figure if I'm going to head out on the track for the first time, might as well do it in one of Chrysler's cars instead of mine.

I'm a little hesitant to get completely into this, as so far it's been just as expensive, if not more expensive than cigars.
Would like to take my car down the strip once, just to see what she posts.
Also would like a tune, but none are available yet. :(

What car do you own that there's no tune for? Now days they can tune a blender 3 days before it is unveiled.:tu

I have a 2012 Challenger SRT.
The PCM in the car is locked with rolling encryption, and has yet to be cracked. :td

WOW... I just finished reading up on it. A lot of MOPAR guys are petitioning it on line. A good friend of mine is a tuner but doesn't touch MOPAR at this time. Guess you might have to swap out the pcm for an older model one if that works.

mosesbotbol 05-02-2012 07:49 AM

Re: Car guys?

Why would they do that? If the ECU could be altered, Mopar could offer add-on performance parts and even supply different mappings for a cost. As long as the program is submitted to Dodge they can OK it for warranty purposes. Bucking the consumer on a halo car like Challenger SRT makes no sense to me.

Yeah, not worth it for me right now.
I've read up on it, not just a PCM swap.
Apparently you have to have a custom wiring harness built as well, since the 2010 PCM will not physically fit into the 2011-2012 cars.
Will just keep my fingers crossed.
There are some reports that Mopar will release it's own canned tune.
That honestly would be fine with me.
I just want the engine to wake up a bit. :)

I just got rid of my ecu on my turbo s2000...went standalone aem ems....if your in nj then you can get away with it as emissions is pretty lax compared with ny and ct!

We almost went that road for my wife, but the car ended up costing almost the same as an x3 on lease. We decided it wasnt worth it and went with something less expensive, a loaded rouge. All in all i love the outback. I have a wrx as my winter car and there really isnt anything much better in the snow. Way better then my old audi!

Re: Car guys?

I looked at one in 2010, also test drove the Forester turbo. I wanted to test drive the 6 cylinder Outback but none of the dealerships could get one, said I had to special order it. The Forester Turbo definately had the better power. I just felt that outback didn't have the power that it needed for the size car. That being said it was a great driving car. drove smooth and ver responsive.

Wow, that must've been a fast car. I had an '03 S2000 as my daily driver for 4 years. Suzuka blue. Miss that car, but my back does not.

It is a carseat issue for us. With offspring #1 arriving in September, we have to ditch the Mazda3. Since the carseat has to fit rear facing for 2 years, we went ahead and bought one to take test driving.

Here is a list of cars that it does not fit in without having to put it in the center or moving the passenger seat up to an uncomfortable level.
  • BMW X3
  • Volvo XC60/XC90/XC70 - We REALLY wanted the XC60 to work
  • Ford Edge, surprisingly
  • Nissan Rogue
  • Mercedes GLK350
  • Mazda CX5
  • Ford Escape
  • Toyota Highlander
  • Acura RDX barely worked, MDX was a no-go

The Outback was the first one we drove and what we ultimately decided on. The seat can be nearly all the way back and the seat still fits. Plus is has a cavernous cargo space. With the seats folded flat, there is just a hair over 7 feet of floor space. This is another big issue for us since we do not have a truck.

A lease is not an option as we drive them until they fall apart

Apexkingjusto 05-04-2012 02:40 PM

Re: Car guys?

Yes In the rouge and wrx the front seats cant go all the way back with out car seat for our new born, but im 5 10 and my wife is 5 4 so its not an issue for us

The s2k is my baby it makes 450 whp....the scary thing is ive had it turbod for 3 yrs now and it seems slow...my wrx seems like a dog sometimes and thats stage 2 at 300 whp :)... The only car i feel is fast is my friends alpha 10 gtr on race gas making about 1000 whp....so its all in perspective! I once thought my 300hp audi was fast....i couldnt imagine driving that now :)
