Interesting Covers of Classic Hits

Stairway to Heaven is one of my favorite songs.

I found an interesting cover version by of all people -- Dolly Parton -- that is surpisingly good...

What interesting covers of favorite songs have you found?

This one still gets me. Now I like a little Glen Campbell and a love a lot of Foo Fighters, so Glen's 2008 remake of "Times Like These" is pretty interesting. Not bad for a 72-year old.

As a huge korn fan I really like their remakes of both word up by cameo and another brick in the wall by that Floyd in pink.

Also think Metallica did well with bob segar's turn the page.

Now for my serious answer...

Michael Burks, the man is phenomenal blues guitarist who truly plays with his heart and soul, and, has a band to match. I've seen him about half a dozen times over the years and he's always bound to pull some incredible cover out of his hat, and you never know what it will be, since they don't use set lists - whatever he plays, they follow.

Unfortunately, not much out there from him on you tube, but here's one to give an idea of how he takes a song and makes it his own, while still respecting the original.

WSP has such a unique way of covering songs, they often don't change them much, but with their unique style and Bell's vocals, they always end up owning whatever they are covering.

Always liked their cover of Fire on the Mountain.

And of course, "Jackassolantern" is a live album in a category all it's own.

I love Panic and have been going to shows since I was in high school. They really do seem to take a song and make it their own. That clip is no exception. I loved Jackassolantern, especially when they did Sympathy for the Devil.

The Fox is where I saw some of my first shows such as the night in '95 I saw No Doubt open for 311. No Doubt was fairly unknown but after that night I had quite the crush on Gwen Stephanie. I would have loved to spend WSP's 25th anniversary at one of my favorite venues.

I did not click all the links above, nor did I search for one myself, but I did not see anyone mention Dweezil Zappa's cover of Stayin' Alive by the BeeGees. It is pretty straight forward, save for his guitar solo in the middle, but twisted juuuuust enough to make it hilarious.

By all means are these not considered, "classic hits", but they're guilty pleasures of mine...

Baby, Now That I've Found You - Alison Krauss & Union Station (originally performed by The Foundations) - Just incredibly great musicians.

Somebody That I Used To Know - Walk Off the Earth (originally performed by Goyte) - These guys have done a lot of covers, and have fun doing them.
